I made a new forum, the Group Seed Swaps forum. Let's use this forum for the continuing discussion of this feature. If you're participating in the beta, please add this forum to your watch list so you can keep up with the posts.

If you got a little behind in the posts, the previous threads about this are:

1) The thread "ATP Annual Seed and Plant Exchange Idea" in Site Talk forum

2) The thread "Moving forward with the seed swap feature" in Site Talk forum

3) The thread "Signup for the Dave and Trish Beta Seed Swap :)" in Site Talk forum

Important news:

I just updated the code for the swap list management system. Nothing externally has changed much but I changed a lot of the internal things. If you notice any trouble with it, let me know.

What's the easiest way to get to my seed swap list? I get there now in such a round about way.

I just now added a link to the swap area control panel from the top-right box of this forum. So if you ever need to find it, just open this forum and it'll be there on the top-right.

Thanks Dave! Big Grin

To get directly to my list, I just bookmarked:
http://garden.org/apps/swap/li...
Smiling

I also just added it to my custom menu bar here on ATP so it's always accessible with one click when I'm on the site.

@Dave I just went looking for the link to the swap page and I can't find it on my phone. It isn't a big deal for me, just letting you know.

Ahh, yes, you're right. That right-hand side bar doesn't show up on phones. Hmmm... Ok, I've added a link to it from Goodies. Just click on Goodies (it's in the menu) and then click on "Group Seed Swaps"

I just uploaded a huge new batch of code. I have completely rewritten the "Add a new item" as well as the "import from plant list" features. It's now much, much more user friendly, and much more compact. Hints and information is now hidden under Question Mark icons to keep it tidy. Mouse over the icons to get tooltips that tell you what to do.

Also, the whole problem with plants not linking should now be fixed. Past plants already added aren't fixed (and can't be, but that's what happens with beta software) but any new item you add should link properly, assuming you select the plant from the list and don't change its name once you choose it.

I'd be very grateful if some folks could try adding a few new items to their swap list, and let me know if they run into any trouble.

I added two - very smooth.

The roll-over question marks ARE very intuitive and helpful.

My only wish right now is that I could STAY in a certain My Plant List category and add multiple4 seeds, click-click-click. Then I would go to my Swap List and fill in details as I dig through my stash and count pkts and measure pinches.

(It would be eaisiest for me to just weigh representative pkts and then report the "quantity per packet" as so many milligrams. But I think that would only annoy people, and not convey useful information!)

You can do that, but it's a function of your browser.

When in your plant list, hold the ctrl key down and then click on each icon for the import. That'll open each one in a new tab.

Then just go from tab to tab filling in the details.

The linking thing seems to be working fine for me now, too -- thanks, Dave!

Dave, would a quote icon be more appropriate, do you think? ("") I see a lot of people love the question mark, but to me, a question mark implies a question Rolling my eyes. Big Grin I wonder if we could reserve the question mark icon for future features that might require an instant explanation (such as an unknown term or a button that people might not know what it does, etc...) That's just a cosmetic thing, though.

Thank you for all of the changes. I also like that there's a forum dedicated to this so that it's easier to find!

I haven't played around with adding seeds since the new updates, but I should have more time for that tomorrow and I'm looking forward to it!

To me the question mark says "what is this?" I'm not sure what I would interpret the quotes as...
If there's a need to change the icon, maybe an "i" for info?
