It's killing me to wait for the first of the year new inventories for many of my favorite vendors.
I forge ahead anyway.
We are having great weather so I am able to see where plants need to be moved and replaced. I have some shade heucheras and heucherellas that were left exposed when we cut three trees down.

I am reluctant to create the container combos until RoseyDawn has their new catalogue up Dec. 1'st
Try as I might,I cant keep my order under 30 plants.

I collect seeds all year, and when winter shows up, it is time to plan:- how I shall use those plants later in the yard.

This week I have aquired seeds as following:

Peony obovata from another ATP member. These will not be ready for the yard for several years.
Seeds from a red maple type tree that I walked by while out on Vancouver Island.
Seeds from a spaghetti squash, which I cooked for a five year old grandaughter who likes it as a substitute for spaghetti.

And I had ordered seeds before I went on holiday:
Anacylus depressus
Androsace carnea alba
Callirhoe involucrata
Eritrichium canum
Campanula cervicaria
Edrainthus graminifolius

These last ones are mostly for rock garden places in the yard.

I googled the campanula, how beautiful.
I hope it isnt the one that spreads like mad not only from seeds but root runners.

I cant remember whether I checked on it before ordering!?

Many of the dahlia vendors haven't yet updated their site for 2016 but I am anxious to order one dahlia, maybe 3 of the same one! It's not easy to wait but I'm still digging dahlias and harvesting tomatoes, peppers, squash, and soon I can dig the fennel for salads.

Since I already have too many dahlias, I'll be giving quite a few to my neighbor and she can dole them out to her friends.

When I was taking coleus cuttings I potted up the ones I liked seeing together so I have my first nine combinations done and growing.

Wow Pirl,
You are organized.
I figure this years Dahlia order will be OK ordered this spring. I plant dahlias every three years, not a lot of room for them.
Two weeks til Roseydawn.
No cuttings here this year. Two kittens.Sarah and I figured they wouldnt leave the plants alone. Next year for sure.

Credit the rainy days!

I still have many coleuses growing. It just hasn't been cold enough to kill them and frost is not in the forecast for the next ten days.

I have several plants that I plan on moving to better locations in 2016. Since I didn't get all of my potted hosta planted in their permanent home, that will be at the top of my to-do list next year! I have ordered several Dahlia from Geoff and I'm going to trade with a friend if ours make it through the winter. I have 6 New hosta ordered from Naylor Creek. I've ordered a few new hibiscus from a co-op, but it doesn't look like we're going to meet the minimum order, so I will probably be looking for them next spring. I'm actually enjoying the slow move into the cold weather. I look out the window and make mental notes (which I usually forget before the day's end!), and rest up until the spring thaw!
When all is said and done, there’s more said than done.

I have already ordered from Swan Island Dahlias, Santa Rosa Gardens, and High Country Gardens! Usually I don't get to this point until the depths of winter. Now what will I do then?

Also, seed order has been placed with Swallowtail. I can't place my mum order with Mums of Minnesota until next year.

On Sunday I went around with my notebook and made detailed notes of what I want to change in each garden. Whoa! Not fun to see all that written down!! I guess I won't be working the second job a the nursery in 2016!!

Also, I need to create a new perennial bed. Still negotiating that one with hubby. I already have permission to move out the border by two feet on one existing bed.

We also have several trees and shrubs babies we should plant out next year. We know where we want to put them. It is just a matter of figuring out how to best reconfigure the sprinkler system.

Swallowtail for zinnias and cosmos and Diane's seeds for the Black Poppy already sown and germinated in our mild November.

Summer is too short. I have to do a all year plan............

My big plans have been bulbs. I am hoping for an explosive Spring patio and gardens. So I have ordered a lot of bulbs.

I have some chilling for winter blooms indoor to help me get through the winter. Planted fragrant bulbs in 20 pots. Freesias, Daffodils, Tulips, Hyacinths, Grape Hyacinths. Ordered some Armarylis for indoor pots. I am hoping to be able to have blooming fragrant gardens in the house for the winter.

Planted 100 bulbs in the pots on the patio and 500 in the gardens.

So I have my plans for bulb garden glory indoors and outdoor from Feb to May.

I will start my winter indoor garden with what I did last year. I pick up a blooming Orchid or two (they stay in bloom for 3 months or more) and get the mini rose bushes from the grocery store. This is what will help me get through garden withdrawal when I fill this basket like last year.

Thumb of 2015-11-17/Cinta/91fcc9

When things are cold, snowy and slow I will sit by the fire with my tea and I will work on my Summer garden plans after the holidays.

Well Jennifer you now know "don't get to this point until the depths of winter. Now what will I do then?"

You have to order some plants for your Mom when the depth of winter gets to you. Rolling on the floor laughing

Ah yes, the planning and plotting - winter gardening! As I have been finishing up bulb planting and cutting back various perennials, I keep considering future projects. I've been determined not to add any beds, but that has simply resulted in expanding present beds. A couple of new bed ideas keep dancing into my thoughts.

I have placed my first order for spring, a dozen new roses. Some new garden space will probably be required, but most will be nestled in among the rest.

Clint, hope you recover quickly!
