What do you use and how do you use it for Daylily rust? I have never ever had this as an issue until this year and I have been growing daylilies for 25+ years. It has spread everywhere. I have cut everything back but I don't know what to use or how to treat this nasty stuff. Please help me my friends!!!

Sorry that you have rust. You may want to post this question on the daylily forum. An article from the AHS Daylily Journal on rust control with fungicides is available on the AHS web site and may give you some ideas:

I've had good luck using 4 oz of "Green Magic" per gallon of water.
Control instructions come with Green Magic and you can get it on Lily Auction or Ebay.
$20 for a gallon of the stuff and shipping is free.

Several daylily farms are using this.

You might take a "wait and see" approach. The first year it struck my garden was horrible. It was EVERYWHERE! The second year---not-so-much. since then it has been hardly noticeable until late in the season when the foliage normally looks a little rough here because of our intense heat in July and August. I clean up all the previous year's foliage during the Winter before new growth in the Spring. I am sure this helps, too. I do not use spray. I got rid of about 20 plants that were the worst for it, too. Some cultivars are more susceptible than others and it is not worth keeping them around.

I've heard about using the green magic but haven't ever had to use it. I have never had a problem with rust until this year and it's made me frantic! I know I may be over reacting but hopefully it wil be better in the spring. Do you think I should spray the green magic now in the winter or wait until spring? I've cut everything back but I just don't want it to come back on my ever green plants. Thank you so much for your help. What is the mixing directions in and how often should I spray it. Are there any plants that should be avoided?? I didn't mean for this to turn into 20 questions lol Thank You!

What are the ingredients of Green Magic? I found a car degreaser of that name. Is that it?

@sooby Sue, I am very diligent in cleaning up old daylily leaves and scapes and packing them in garbage bags for the dump. However, it has dawned on me that I may be naughty in not disposing of deadheaded flowers properly, which I snip and let fall to the round. Do you think the decomposing material from old blooms could be a reservoir for spores?

I don't recall seeing anything about pustules on buds. Unless that happens I wouldn't think the deadheaded flowers are any more of a risk than anything else in the environment. Spores must end up on the ground anyway when they release from the leaves or wash off in the rain. Except for spores that get splashed back up onto green leaves and then get a chance to germinate, they'll eventually die. So I wouldn't be concerned about it, personally.

I would think the "Green Magic" car degreaser would cure rust by killing the plants. I don't think it is what people are using on daylilies to help with rust. I think I read a post before by Xenacrockett, saying they were different !!
So if anyone tries "Green Magic" make double sure it is for use on daylilies.

Suga, you can read the label. E-bay lets you magnify it. It says "High performance cleaner degreaser". On the back you can see how much to use to clean your carpets too.

Xenacrockett, I would like to know which daylily farms are using this stuff for daylily rust. I have been going to most of the big growers for several years and all I have been told is they use the high dollar products that I use. It would be great to spend $20 instead of several hundred every year.

May I ask what you are using to prevent rust where you are?

I use Headline and Cabrio, I have used lots of other chemicals over the years, but these two work the best for me. I have to spray all year because we have very little cold weather.

Fred, those both contain the same active ingredient (pyraclostrobin) so wouldn't be a rotation. Do you rotate with anything else?
