Welcome, feifeif84. I assume you are not in Birmingham, Alabama, USA. Whistling

I wish I could help you but I have no experience in what you ask.

By the way, please go back to your "Profile" and update it, giving your location. When you list your location, every time you post something, your location will show in the upper right-hand corner. Knowing one's location is very helpful when answering questions.

Welcome!

We do have several members across the Pond. If you go to the left side of your screen you will see a list. Near the bottom it says "Goodies". click on that. Then look for "ATP member map" and click. Once that comes up you can enlarge or shrink as needed. When you mouse over a red tag you will see the ATP member name for that location. You can call anyone to this thread by simply placing an "@" in front of their member name. Not all members are active so they may not respond. But it is your best shot to get "locals" who perhaps have the best direct knowledge of your area.

I went to the map and looked for the five closest to Birmingham.

@Loulou
@robpaine1
@pixie62560
@lilymanrob
@barbwire8u
and of course you (to show you how the @ feature works) @feifeif84

Now you can go to the map and call out to fellow countryman and see if they respond.

Also, you can contact the members direct by treemailing them. That is the email feature of this site.

Again Welcome!

Welcome to ATP,
I don't know which vegetables, if any, are native to your area. I did some quick research and find most of the common vegetable origins. Don't know how accurate this information is but it may help you to rule out some plants:
http://www.localhistories.org/...

I found another site (have no idea if it is accurate) which lists edibles supposedly native to Northern Europe:
Apple, Black Currant, Damson plum, Pears, Raspberry; and vegetables: Angelica, Mustard, Parsnips, Radish, Rapeseed, Turnips.

Fruit trees and hedgerows...Vaccinium myrtillus/European Blueberry, Sambucus nigra/Elderberry; maybe Cherries, Sorbus aucuparia/Rowan, Prunus spinosa/Blackthorn/Sloe , Hawthorn, Holly - some bear fruit for wildlife only and NOT for human consumption.

There have been so many different cultures bringing plants to the UK over the centuries that it may be difficult to determine which are true native plants. Good luck with your project.

There's also a British Gardening forum here on All Things Plants. Another resource may be the botanical gardens in Birmingham at:
