Thought I'd seen the last of blooms for this year and just discovered two buds each on two separate "Wild Plum" plants.
Should bloom early December.
The other photo is Curly Locks plants. Believe it or not these were from seed planted just twelve months ago and they have not stopped growing
I will have to look back for the name of the plant producing the seed pod. It was a cutting received about six months ago. The cutting just about put out a bloom and somehow managed to seed. Totally unexpected.

Those curly locks are interesting. Can't wait to see blooms!
My Epis are mostly resting, but a couple are putting out new growth. No idea why they are growing at this time of year.

I will have to move the Curley Locks pots further apart. I noticed they are becoming entwined in each other and one or two have rooted branches in neighboring pots. Also on further examination I seem to have a spider infestation. The Curly leaves have small cobwebs. Also some black drying along the edge of some leaves. I will be spaying for insects and fungi I think.
Its amazing how rigid and compact the growth is. The leaves are also naturally brittle. Its difficult to pry them apart with breaking. Off course that becomes a cutting.

Mike, does curly locks bloom? I guess it needs some good dry time, seeing it really has good succulent leaves.

A friend and I agreed that we have both been overwatering. This cloudy humid wet weather has not allowed the greenhouse plants to dry out.

The information I have on Curly Locks says they are prolific night bloomers with small white blooms and seed easily. The fruit is supposed to be edible. There are some pics on line

Look forward to seeing bloom photos once those buds pop open! I too love the Curly Locks ... very interesting leaves on those ... amazing those are from seeds just a year ago but you do live in an ideal location for beautiful tropical plants!

More buds than I expected.

This one opened yesterday, Tropical Incense. Buds on three other plants and still waiting for the fruit to ripen. And a couple of Rhipsalis (or is Rhapsilis)

Looks like the buds I have will open in December. In January 2015 I had no blooms, February had 2 blooms so we will have to wait and see.

Hi Mike, This should have in reply on Curly Locks.

I had infestation of Scale once. Almost killed plant before I got control.

For all that are interested, blooms are insignificant but I think were daytime or at least blooms lasted several several days. Fruit is red and rare. Never tasted one.. In my opinion, foliage is outstanding and main reason to grow plant Sorry I couldn't find my pictures I had posted to my old and soon to be 'Dave's old site'.

Just got back from the Greenhouse and found 2 more plants with total of 4 buds.

Larry - will have to wait and see what happens when Curly Locks blooms. Lots of different stories. That's half the fun.

Btw the blooms of the monstrose form of Epi phyllanthus/Curly Locks do look similar to the Epi phyllanthus var. phyllanthus, ( I have posted my plant here) although the tube is not quite as long. And they only last one night also.

Btw 2 looking at the seed pod in your original post - phyllanthus var phyllanthus is on occasion cleistogamous.

Some years ago we tasted the seed pod of Epi phyllanthus var. phyllanthus, one is reminded of a Dragon fruit, but it is pretty bland. Think of "sugar water with seeds". We tolerated it without a problem, but I would say, Apples taste better! Smiling I suppose if I am stranded on a desert Island without food, I would carefully eat those.

Thanks Ursula,

I will have to google cleistogamous. (Was he a Roman gardener)? I wish I had the brain to retain all these names and technical details. I try and write things down and then forget where I put the notes so I have to keep referring back to posts like this. No little face below for "frustrating".

OK, found the meaning of cleistogamous. So produces a seed pod without needing fertilization from another plant. These forums are such a great place to learn.

Ursula- how long before that seed matures. Stayed the same now for quite some time.

Hmm, I never really timed them, but it seems like they take some weeks to ripen.
Actually, there are times when the bloom truly never opens on this particular Epiphyllum! It is not that you missed it, it really did stay closed.

Merry Christmas everyone,

Yesterdays bloom is Wild Acclaim. The blooms are not as robust at this time of the year. Might have one more open next week and then will have to wait a week for the remaining blooms to open, hopefully five more. They will be the first blooms I've had in January. Still fighting branch rot and still taking replacement cuttings.
