Sue, I wondered what you meant and now I just got done with the "Trees and Shrubs" category. Got it. I agree with Cinda; if someone put them in the wrong category (because Dave would never have a computer glitch) then I disregard them. I think part of voting for the best in each category is that you want a picture that really embodies the category.

I do give a lot of leeway with annuals and perennials since I live in Florida and the flowers don't always follow the rules. Hilarious! And then there are some that I just scratch my head at. For example, I had a picture of a dahlia and I wondered if it was a perennial or bulb. I guess it's more of a tuber. I generally go to the plant database and see what it says. Thumbs up

Dahlias are a tough one because for me they aren't perennial and are really a tuber...I do put them in the bulb category. Same as canna, it's a tuber but can be considered a tropical too but I treat them as annuals. Sighing!

Yes, I do give some leeway as what is a tropical for me is a perennial for someone in a different area.

Yeah, Dahlias are a tough one. Personally I think they should have their own catagory Shrug! But in some parts of the country they are tubers that do not have to be dug up.

As for wrong category I was confused to find a fox in the vegetable pics. While it was cute I did not vote for it because I didn't see any veggies!

Under trees and shrubs there are quite a few close ups of the blooms and berries from trees and shrubs, to me those are in the right category.

Ronnie, if they ever decide to put everything in one pot for me to vote on I am sure gonna need more than three votes! It was difficult narrowing down the entries in each category and I have stopped for a break.

Agree with everyone, if it is out of its category I just skip it but it is hard to know about some due to growth zone. I found that I tended to look at what is an annual or perennial in my zone.

I actually liked that particular picture...
Did you open the picture to see the full view? I'm going to guess no, as that apple in the fox's mouth is fairly plain to see if you do.. Quite clever use of the category, IMHO.

I kind of liked the dump truck dumping dirt. I forget which category it was in. I was tempted to vote for it because it reflects my sense of humor! Hilarious!

I had the same question about Dahlias and ended up putting my dahlia submissions in the perennial section. While they are not perennials for me in zone 4, they are in zone 7 and higher, and they definitely are not bulbs.

I didn't post any Dahlia because I wasn't sure what category they belonged in...but, I did see some beautiful blooms in a few different groups. Didn't have a problem clicking on them if I liked them though!

I'm taking a break too. In the perennials and annuals I just ignored the category, as So. Cal is like Florida in that respect. After reading that they could end up in the Data base, I narrowed it down to the best photo of the particular plant for ID purposes. Trees and shrubs were iffy. Beautiful pictures of Wisteria, which is a vine. Landscapes and gardens is the worst, so far. Lots of natural landscapes and lots of public gardens. Sometimes hard to figure out, and impossible to narrow down to three. Wild and native is relative too. This is an international site, and even what's wild or native between East and West coasts is often misunderstood, then you get into introduced species...Argg! I'm hoping some with the critters , like the coyote will be duplicated when I get to the last category. This is definitely more than one sitting. Dave is making us work a bit for our free site. Hilarious!

Last year I was stressing to find the time to judge each category. Seemed like there were too many good photos. Blinking Confused
Voting was easier for me this year. I happened to wake up at something like 3 in the morning with a headache - not a normal thing for me. I took two asprin and a glass of milk then spent an hour just looking at the pretty photos. No need to read any words. By the time the hour was over I had completed every category, had a few good laughs (empty containers, animal running off with an apple, etc.) and the headache was history. Thumbs up It was kind of funny to see my own photos (which I thought were so worthy) next to the really good photos. I am humbled.

I found it tricky choosing the right category for my photos because they could go in more than one category. For example, what if a plant is both a shrub and a native? Does a pot of irises belong to the irises category, the container category or both? It would be annoying if everyone ignored my photo if I put it in the wrong place. Maybe an administrator could check the photos and put them in the right category before launching the voting.
