Yes, it's an experiment to try to draw attention to something.

Sometimes people miss things and I use those big boxes with icons to try to catch attention, but being able to make it bounce for a second (just a second, not longer) might help even more.

I'm planning on using the effect extremely sparingly, and mostly for pages where I need to make a large effort to draw attention to an important piece of information.

Thanks for using it sparingly! It sure does work, jarringly.

I know how hard it is to get people to read instructions. Guilty!

I found that I automatically skip past anything that looks like text being thrust at me, not what I was looking for. Recently in the Beta Swap I caught myself skipping PAST the highlighted boxes to get to what I was looking for. Wrong!

In most websites, anything "thrust forward" that hard is always some form of advertising and something THEY want from ME, not anything that I would have read willingly.

On this website, I remind myself that it's from DAVE, so he must have something IMPORTANT to say, also important to US, or he wouldn't be bolding it and boxing it and painting it red and now applying the electric shock tingle to our eyes.

Once I suggested to a co-worker that we needed cattle prods to implant certain instructions into the very junior co-workers, after they resisted all our initial efforts to make them comply with some badly needed parts of the process.

He put on a more-in-sorrow tone and lectured me at length until he got around to his punchline.

"NO, Rick! Modern software methodology has developed new and more EFFECTIVE ways to produce software!! We no longer use cattle prods. Ya hit a guy with a cattle prod, he gets right back up and keeps doin' the wrong thing. NOW we have modern, automated, TASER shock-collars! Ya hit someone with that, he STAYS down for a while and has learned his lesson by the time he gets back up."

I had to defer to his superior experience and wisdom.

I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others. ~~ Sharon Brown
