The Usefulness of Creating Pedigree Charts When Hybridizing

Ever wonder how some daylily flowers developed the "look" they are sporting? Researching back into their genetic tree can be revealing! Creating a pedigree chart can be a very useful hybridizing tool.

This is very impressive Becky! I would really like to do something like this, however I'm not very computer/program saavy. How long does it take you to create one of these dayliliy family trees? Both for the simple format, and the more involved one? I really like these, and great article by the way!

The programs that I use do take some time to learn and it also does take time to create the pedigree charts. It doesn't do the cultivars automatically. I have to plug them into each template, so that is probably more than most people want to mess with. BUT .... they sure do make nice pedigree charts, IMHO!
