'Night Embers' is a lovely daylily, with an unusual eye-catching form and color. It has performed well in my garden, and is a nice healthy clump, probably in need of dividing this upcoming spring.

This daylily is one of the more beautiful varieties I own. It's a pity it was such a terrible pod parent because I failed to get pollen from it to preserve for hybridizing. That means I can't comment on it as a pollen parent; it also means I have no or nearly no seeds with it as a parent at all.

If you're looking for beautiful, memorable daylilies, this one should be in your list!

Very pretty. I only have a few daylillies but I appreciate a lovely flower when I see one!
It makes me think I should be going to my local grower next season and seeing what new she has.

Night Embers is a nice double Daylily with good form but I am disappointed with it's performance here. It took 2 years to bloom and then there were not very many blooms to enjoy. It is pretty which is why I purchased it but I will probably let it go if it does not perform well again this Spring. I do not hybridize doubles so I cannot say anything about its fertility.

For me, this tet double would usually bloom with just a "spritz" of extra tissue - the full, double look was a rare thing. I really dislike a double that exhibits this trait! It also had a low bud count so got moved out long ago.

Night Embers is a very strong grower in my zone 3a garden, multiplied really well, it has sturdy scapes, but low bud count, and I do not get fully double blooms, most are single. I divided it this fall. I did get it to set a few pods a few years ago and got a couple of very nice seedlings.

Seedling #1Night Embers X Kasbah Fez, shows signs of doubling but in my climate it is usually single, it is a strong grower, has many fans and strong scapes with blooms high above the foliage, fairly high bud count. It is striking in the garden.

Seedling #2 Night Embers X Kasbah Fes, sibling to the one above is a beautiful red, with the same traits, quickly formed a clump, it has also shown some double traits but most are single. One of my favorites in the garden.

This one grew here for many years, from 1998 until just this year. The area where it grew increasingly had more shade over the years, but it performed well. The blooms didn't always have ALL of the extra segments but did bloom double. I liked the height, some doubles are short and look out of proportion to me. The picture in this display threw me off, because this cultivar has never ever shown any trace of orange here, even in the sunshine. It is always a bing cherry red with an edge. The wire gold edge always gave this bloom a little extra pizzazz!

I do not have a lot of doubles in my garden, this is one of them I find the color appealing. I looked at the database and see the color on this one seems to very quite a bit in the shade of the color from light to dark. Here is a photo of mine.

I looked back at my PlantStep software for blooming information so that I could post something more helpful here. Here is some information I found:

I only had/pollinated 6 blooms of Night Embers. It bloomed from July 6th to July 18th in my garden. Out of 6 pollinated blooms, two formed seedpods. Not the greatest pollination rate, but that does mean that it IS pod fertile.

I used Night Embers as a pollen parent on 5 blooms (four different cultivars), and none of them took. I wasn't terribly surprised, the pollen heads on Night Embers was nowhere near the full, fluffy-looking pollen heads of other varieties. I've deemed it a poor pollen parent in my garden, but I may try again next year.

Night Embers has a beautiful bloom, though, so I still highly recommend it as an ornamental, so here's a picture:

It was very susceptible to leaf streak here. I finally ditched it, as the disease spread to other plants also. May have just been its location in my garden, though the replacement plants don't have the same problem.

Nigh Embers grows really well here and it is so pretty. I have been growing it only 2 years but it has settled in to already grow the registered height of 30" and has had a bud count of 9 with 4 way branching. I am happy with that but it may get better with maturity.. It is early starting to bloom July 16 but I did not record the length of bloom time. It doubles every bloom. I have no diseases so leaf streak is not an issue.

I haven't had Night Embers for that long, it was planted Spring 2021. I had one flower that summer. This Spring, I added a few fans. There was also a sparse bloom ( 5 flowers) but I'm hoping that next year, as I am up to 8 fans, I'll finally have some good bloom. The plant is in a good location, so should be able to do it's best.

I really love the bloom. I'm a fan of doubles and dark Daylilies and this has both traits. The lovely gold wire rim really makes this special.

2023 update…finally, a good season out of Night Embers! It bloomed from July 5-23, with 29 blooms counted and ended the season at 9 fans ( one more than last year). It seems to mostly bloom double here with perfect form.
