I realize it's early, but I was hoping to create a thread where local Iris groups can post their shows and sales, and post ideas about what they've seen that they've liked/disliked. This could be a way for people traveling to visit clubs they might not otherwise visit, and to see how different clubs operate. (And yes, this is a little selfish on my part as not only am I the sale chair for our iris group this year, I will be on a road trip across the country during April & May, then again in July & August.)

Our show this year will be combined with National Garden Clubs of Frankfort at our state capitol being held at an historic house called the Letcher-Lindsay House this year on May 14th. Our sale is always the last Saturday in July although we do sell potted iris at our show. Many groups in Frankfort will be selling plants around the block on the day of our show.

We are looking at selling potted iris at our show (in May), and then again at our sale (in June). This will be our first year, so another trial (and hopefully not error!) Still firming up our dates with our show/sale host. @janielouy - how do you price your potted iris? Traditionally our rhizomes were priced by year of introduction going down to $5 for introductions from 6 years ago, but we found that only the group members went for the $10 choices. We're thinking of changing that this year. Unfortunately for us, we don't have a huge contingent of iris lovers here. Trying to change that, but it takes time.

Darcy, you might try emailing Dell Perry of Seandel Iris. She does a ton of work for the Dallas society's sales and I would think she'd have some useful information. Smiling

Monterey Bay Iris Society has their first sale on August 6th, same as Clara B. Rees (darn it!!). We hold it at the Deerpark Shopping Center in Aptos.
The following weekend, we have a second sale at Cabrillo College at their Farmer's Market. While not as financially successful as the Deerpark sale, we have an opportunity to talk to people who may not be familiar with growing Iris. Both are loads of fun.

It was mentioned at our meeting the other night that we will have potted Iris for sale for the first time this year. I'm not sure how we'll price them yet.. The rhizomes go for $4 each (up this past year from $3).

We arrange our rhizomes according to color and class, with Historics and re-bloomers getting their own table(s). We have two club digs prior to the sales at Joe Ghio's farm and another member's house. They grow a good portion of rhizomes that go into the sales, with members also supplying the rest. We have a really nice mix of newer introductions with some of the older greats, and a nice selection of historics.

The talk on Novelty iris is sure to be interesting with some of the great space agers coming from your part of the world.
