I just finished my new orders for 2016. I don't include the annuals for the deck garden.
I shouldn't even court the idea of digging holes for perennials.
Maybe hire my grandson to help. He has a real job and isn't always available.

Vanilla Cream a smaller variety.

I am reworking ( adding to ) a garden that used to be mostly shade. It already was a salad bowl for deer but nevermind I have some new hostas and ferns coming from Hallsons. Son in law helped lay big slate slabs for a new path in this area.
Small sedums for the path and ferns at the edges.

We are having the front door and sidewalk redone. The slate came from leftovers.

Awesome shade garden! Over the years I've gone from wishing I had more sun to having little shady area. Miss my shade plants!

I have tried Geum.It doesnt last here. Makes me sad, but just another plant that doesnt make it. I move on to the next one.
Prairie Splendor sounds great.
I'll give it a look.

Love the smell of the lavender...where are you planting them, Jo? I have my perennials in the cellar until the weather settles.....hopefully, I'll get them planted by the end of the week when temps will be in the 70s here.........

I planted them this AM as soon as it was above 40.
My schedual is heating up.
I need to rest Thursday so I can shop with a friend after she gets home from work.
Thats two hours before my bed time.I will need to take my rolling-walker in order to move faster than I do when buying groceries. She is in for a big surprise. The items are for me so I have to do it.

Hi all. I am relatively new to the forum. Looking forward to getting to know you.

I just picked up my new plants from our local Conservation District: 25 asparagus crowns, a buddleia, and 3 campanula rontfolias (not sure of the spelling). I have the bed almost all ready for the asparagus crowns. My daughter is going to help me plant them today.

Welcome, Cayuga.

Asparagus are probably the best thing we ever planted here. We ate the first of them, for 2016, Thursday night. So tender and delightful. We've had the bed (12' x 12') for 25 years and they expand at a slow and steady rate.

We had some purples but they died out fast. They still turned green when cooked.

We'll have more for tomorrow night.

Now I learned something new today, aside from the fact that as soon as I turn my back the weeds get busy growing.

Yes, the purple doesn't stay, but it turns sort of brownish on the bottom, green at the top.....tastes great, though!
