Bought Miss America last year, but it is semi-double. Hoping for flowers this June. Fragrance does not have to be very strong, but pleasant and noticeable at least.
I am wondering if such thing exist?

Thanks, I'd love to hear there is a choice.I noticed that some of the peony sellers describe ones as no need for support or best landscaper - in Hollingsworth best landscaper page there is no double whites. Is your list based on your own experience or sellers description? Lancaster Imp looks rather floppy on one of online pictures.

I think most double peonies will need some kind of support or another if they get rained on. When it is sunny and dry, the flowers can hold themselves up but not when they get wet.

Here is Lancaster Imp at a Peony Garden in PA. Picture taken in 2013. You can judge for yourself if it needs support.

Mother's Choice, picture also taken at the same Peony Garden

BYW, none of these bushes had any form of support.

I don't have Lancaster Imp but do have Mother's Choice, agree 100% with the assessment! Mine blooms fairly late and it's in some shade so gets a bit leggy but doesn't need support, even with strong winds and rain.

Mother's Choice from Connie - if it was taken after rain I guess is reasonable

Hi, Alex, the list is mostly from seller's recommendations. I don't have all of them. Mostly they are o.k., sometimes a very heavy rain will be challenging for them, as Karen said.
You can also try tree peonies "Xiang Yu" or "Jing Yu", they both are fragrant and double at mature age.

Adelman describes Amalia Olson as "stands up well in wet weather" compare to "strong stems " of Miss America and White Frost and "stands up to weather " My Love. Anyone grows Amalia Olson?

I do but it's a recent addition, fall 2014. It did put out a single bloom last spring, I can say the plant must be as hardy as the majority of peonies because it survived and managed to bloom first year with the awful weather we had here last spring. It certainly isn't an established plant--that's when you see most of the issues of flopping, the few stems that came up had no issues with weather. I don't remember a scent. Didn't take a pic of the plant since there were so few stems, looks sparse, but here's the one bloom that did open.

Summer Glow has some amazing pictures but it is an incredibly slow grower. I've had it for 3 springs already and haven't seen a single bud. I thought it was just my location but several growers have said it was the same for them as well. Hopefully I'll get a bloom this spring.....

I have Amalia Olson. It has good stem strength but I don't recall of it having any scent. Each growing area is different though so it may produce a scent for you.

Alex, you should check out Petite Elegance and Mrs. FDR. They have the nicest scents and the stem strength of PE is excellent. Mrs. FDR has very good strong stems but the flowers being too full and heavy will flop if they get wet.

Wow, Summer Glow 3 seasons and still no flowers. Have to think it over. I love Mrs. FDR flowers but want something sturdier. Petite Elegance looks like a lovely one. How does it perform for you, Karen?

I got it from Hollingsworth, Alex, but I didn't take pictures that fall. I've never gotten an undersized root from them, though. I assume it was the typical 3-5 eyes and I know it wasn't damaged. I actually thought I'd move it next fall if there were no flowers this spring before I saw the posting about it being a slow grower on Planet Peony on Facebook. If it increases at all this spring I'm leaving it where it is.
I've had others that took that long to bloom, some because of my ignorance (thanks, Karen, for suggesting that I move Cytherea!) and others that just haven't been good performers here in CO.

Petite Elegance is an outstanding peony all around, very nice rose like fragrance, sturdy stems, beautiful form. The only thing is it is a slow grower for me and if you are looking for a tall variety, PE is short to medium. It should be planted in the front border.

Any input on 'LULLABY COOS'? Some sellers comment on strong stems and it looks good on pictures.

1st year blooming in my garden for Lullaby Coos. Planted it fall 2014 so impressed that it bloomed at all last spring. Sorry, not the best photo but I'm not the best photographer!

Here's one of my favorite 1st spring blooms from last year, might be more light pink than you want but the 1st spring bloom was GORGEOUS! Chiffon Parfait, don't think it's supposed to be fragrant, though. One of the biggest, prettiest first year blooms I had last spring, performed better than Pastelegance and Sonoma Halo....I lied, sorry! Just checked the peony database and it IS supposed to be fragrant. I'll try to remember to check this year!

Both actually stood up well to all of the crazy hail, rain and winds we had last spring/summer.

Chinook did very well, too.

Thanks a lot, Liz. I've heard Chiffon Parfait is improved version of Sarah Bernhardt. Chiffon Parfait and Chinook look very nice for 1st year.
I was trying to find some of those peonies from Canadian sellers and PE, Lullaby Coos are suppose to be available here. Have to wait for Summer Glow but I am not in a hurry. A lot of transplanting this fall anyway.
Decided to skip My Love ( may be I should not - something does not work with the shape of the flower - may be wrong ) and totally white one Mother Choice. It seems that Amalia Olson is not around for grabs in Canada.
Really impressed how Summer Glow looks on some of those pictures.

Me too, Alex. There were several pics of it on Facebook last month that made me think it'll be worth the wait.
