Do you have a favourite mini Hosta? Which ones have done well for you? A lot of the minis seem very similar to each other so I wonder what recommends one over the other. At this time I have Blue Mouse Ears and Mighty Mouse but have several on my wish list including Blue Mouse Ears Supreme, Cat and Mouse, Cameo and Giantland Sunny Mouse Ears. Love to hear what others are growing.

I have the same minis as you do, Debbie. Be interested in hearing what others have and how the minis do for them.

Forgot I have Cracker Crumbs as well. I like how Ann has used it as a border plant. Hurray!

I really like Kinbotan, venusta,Country Mouse, and Cameo. I also have a bright yellow one which was a seedling which appeared in a friends garden. They shared it with me. It is a very good grower.

What a cutie! Love the flowers too.
Is that a hypertufa behind the blue pot in the 1st and 3rd shot?

Yes, 'Cracker Crumbs' and 'Lemon Frost' and probably any of that family, make a great border. Very fast growing and easy to divide.

I personally wouldn't waste more time and money on the Blue Mouse Ears family except for BME which grows well. And maybe 'Church Mouse' with its ruffly leaves. I have found the family unstable and with the exception of 'Pure Heart' which I've had for only 2 years, any with white or lighter centred leaves has gone all blue within a couple of years. 'Frosted Mouse Ears' has also done well for me.

Another mouse, but from a different family, is 'Country Mouse' and it's delightful, fast growing and also easy to divide.

I'll post some pictures, but time is very limited this weekend. Also, if you scroll down the hosta threads, there was another a year or so ago on the same topic.

Thanks Ann. Will definately add Country Mouse to my list; love the minty green color with the crisp white edge. And will check out last years thread as well. I tip my hat to you.

Debra I have never gotten into picture taking. I should do that. I do not have pics of any of my hostas.
Ann very nice collection of minis. My country mouse is located between pavers and does well there. Interestingly it is not one of the Blue Mouse sports. I think I need to find X-rated.
Another little beauty is Elfin Fire.
Dragon Tails is another prolific little gem.

Gary - I strongly recommend taking the time to take regular pictures of your collection. It does take a bit of time, mostly naming the pictures for future reference, but I have found the pictures very, very valuable. They give me a record of the growth progression of the plants. I've also noticed reverting/sporting eyes when looking at pictures that I had overlooked entirely when in the garden. Ditto for problems with the hostas. And finally, if markers go astray, they provide vital clues as to what the hosta is by studying what's around it. That's also valuable if you move hostas late in the season and can't remember where in the spring.

Ann, your post is so helpful. Thank you for saving me time and money with your very useful observations. I will be on the look out for several of your recommendations. Are those yellow blooms on Tears of Joy or is there another blooming plant in that pot?

Thanks Rose. How does Pandora's Box grow for you? I understand it can be a bit on the difficult side.
And Nougat has a very interesting pattern; does it maintain that throughout the season?

Pandora's Box hasn't been a problem for me so far. I've had it for several years and it's done well. Now watch...this is the year it won't come back! Nougat does keep its color throughout the season, but it looked like it was getting some solid leaves last year. I'll have to watch it this spring. I moved all of my minis and small hostas into a new bed last year so I'm waiting to see what likes the new location. I hope all of them do!
