I can't wait to see some of my plants bloom. The leaves all look kind of "ratty" right now and hopefully that's just the signs of semi-dormancy.

My big Adenium is finally blooming, and it must have a hundred buds on it but only a few are open right now. Here is a pic .

Karen, your bloom is so pretty and cute and seems to be saying, "Hello Mommy...I am finally here...I made it!" And you have oodles of buds on the branches of your tree! Wow!

You all have gorgeous blooms on your trees!
Thanks, KD, it is filled with buds on every branch, but that week without water took it's toll on some of them. They are browning and falling off. I'm hoping to get a pic of a big bouquet of flowers in a few weeks if the first blooms will hold on. I'm keeping it in the shade.

Karen, I am positive you will have bouquets! Keeping them in shade now at the temps you have in AZ at this time, and with ample moisture, will provide for longer-lasting blooms.

Ken, you have your adeniums in your solarium, right? What do you mean by leaves looking "ratty?" Are they discolored?

I will go out and take pictures, KD. I wouldn't say "discolored", just tips or leaves turning brown, then extending slowly to involve more and more leaf surface. Finally the leaf simply turns completely brown and will either hang there (dead) or drop off. Growing so many tropicals and not seeing this, other than on my adenium, makes me nervous.

Ken, I see what you mean...some of the leaf edges have turned brown. But the leaves are not uniformly turning yellow, which would be an indication of leaf drop from dormancy and/or not enough moisture. @RCanada would be able to verify this.

If your solarium is warm enough and you see some active growth, then perhaps your adeniums need some trace elements. I suggest applying a liquid solution of a starter that has Vit. B1, boron, zinc, iron, weekly for two weeks, then a weak solution of seaweed or fish emulsion every two weeks.

The caudex of the plants look good, though, and should fatten up with the above recommended treatment. Thumbs up

That is the same sort of browning I'm getting. I think mine is due to the very hard water we have in both places. Do you have hard water, Ken?

No, our tap water is extremely good. I got the assay results last fall, but year to year, it has remained about the same.

I am going to switch to rain water for a while. I have Super Thrive and use pretty much nothing but orchid fertilizers for all my tropical plants. We'll see what happens.

The browning tips may be lack of something, but give them straight water on their next watering. Over-all, I think they look very good and the majority of the brown leaves are from change in light and temps. As long as mine are losing leaves from the lower extremities, I do not concerned. Top leaves, then I like to monitor more closely. I find that they can shed their leaves and within a few weeks to a month they start producing more.
If they are in a soil-less mix and do not have added slow release fertilizer to mix. If in leaf, I fertilize mine every time with a 1/4 strength every time I water. Occasionally flush with plain water. Watering dependent on what the trees need for the time of year and growth cycle.

I am sure I do not need to tell you about fertilizer/fertilizing. As KD mentions. A fertilizer w the elements that she states are definitely important for good growth and vigor.

Ok, if your water is good, it must be needing the trace elements like KD said. I'm using distilled water for now, and I need to try new fertilizer too. My leaves are really messed up now on both trees.

Did any of you notice those sticky cards? People often ask me if they really work. Those have been used for about 4 wks. but when I placed these three adjacent to the adenium a week ago, the number of "captured" insects have more than doubled.

I just started using them too. Mine are yellow on one side and blue on the other. So far the yellow gets the most insects. I'm getting aphids, whiteflies and fungus gnats. None of them seem fond of the blue, but I read that they were for thrips. I'm just as happy not to have them....yet....
