While Purslane is in the Portulaca family, this Portulaca is called Moss Rose.
The leaves are narrow and more pointed and the blooms are layered.

My portulaca is getting a bit tired I think Sad It's still blooming but not as profusely as it was.

I wonder if I should cut it back?

Even though I keep it watered, it's in an incredibly HOT area where temps at ground level reach 115 easily. Anything that survives that is a winner, huh?

The purslane are in baskets in the same area and doing just fine Thumbs up

I'm watering everyday but then I wonder if I'm watering too much? Not enough? You know how you play that game Confused

I'm incredibly impressed that can be colorful and stand up in this wicked heat.

Welcome to the Purslane-Portulaca forum, Izhar. I love the portulaca you've shown us. Do you also have purslane over there?

Yes we do have Purslanes, but unfortunately I am not growing them right now. However, for the next summer I will try to put every available color of Purslane in my garden, such a lovely plant it is..

Becky that is Perennial Portulaca, it doesn't set seeds and is propagated through cuttings. Apart from Pink it comes in pure white, light pink and light pink & dark pink bi-colored blooms. The white and pink ones have single petaled varieties too.

They become dormant during our mild winters and start growing and blooming again in the spring till next winters..

Thanks Vicki, thanks Becky...

The perennial Portulacas are quiet common here, especially near my new home (the garden in the pic was along with the old one).

As they doesn't require fertilizer and are extremely drought tolerant, wish i could send you people their cuttings, don't know if its allowed to send cuttings in mail..

It probably isn't but that is a kind gesture.
What temperatures do you experience there?

I think maybe a lot of the purslanes that are grown as annuals are really perennials. Oh, and here's a portulaca relative that I'd love to have!

Becky, not yet but for next summer season they are on my list..!! I am growing Vigna caracalla from seeds which is doing great, no blooms yet.. as we are in sub-tropical climate and near sea, the temperature rarely go below 50 F (10 C) in our mild winters, however we regularly cross the century mark in summers until monsoon rains arrive...

Yes Linda you are right they are actually perennials but the cultivated hybrid varieties grown from seeds mostly behave as annuals although they do re-seed sometimes . I liked that plant in the link, seems to be ideal for a cacti and succulent garden..

Great Link, Linda!

We have Monsoons in Arizona too but nothing like they used to be. Our winters are mild but we will occasionally get a winter freeze and everyone covers their plants with sheets.

GREAT link Linda - thank you and beautiful flower.

Becky, we have to do the sheet thing once in awhile here in late spring if plants have started out of the ground and then we get a hard freeze.

We get plenty of the freezes here...it's an altitude thing. We are truly in the Hill Country of Texas. Last winter, of course, was an aberration, with lower temps than I'd seen in a long time. The nurseries did well in the spring, sold lots of plants to replace what died (or what people thought had died), either from severe drought (ended in the fall last year) or from cold. Many plants just came up extremely late this year, from the roots.
