I had placed 2 orders of semps on Perennial Obsessions about a week apart, roughly 3 weeks ago.Woohoo, I was getting excited! I just love the anticipation of semp deliveries!

A few days after I placed the second order I received a phone call from them explaining that there won't be any semps for this spring! Sighing!
Apparently there was a terrible accident involving the semp greenhouse. So sad!
I hope they get back up and running soon!

I did manage to score the sempies I wanted from SMG & Youngs! Hurray!
I even managed to get my hands on "Thunder" this spring too!

I am still desperately seeking a few offsets of "Jungle Shadows". This will be my 3rd season looking for that sexy semp!
Now if the flipping weather would just cooperate, I'll be able to go out and play in the dirt!

That is a real bummer about Perennial Obsessions! Crying

Our weather has totally sucked the last month too. They're saying by mid week this week it should start acting like Spring. I can't wait!

Oh man, me too! I am totally over this winter thing!
We had just over an inch of snow yesterday and very cold temps the past week. So that mess did't melt. Apparently, whoever controls the weather didn't get the memo about spring starting!
Todays forcast is for 57 degrees! And, looking wonderful for the next week!
I can't wait to go out and play in the dirt!

I agree sad to hear about PObsessions Crying
Just an fyi Young's should have the correct plant for all of Kevin's plants (Jungle Shadows being one) because he's worked with them to ensure they're correct, I guess there are a lot of imposters on some of his older cultivars Thumbs up
I tip my hat to you.

They don't have it available yet. Jungle Fires is available, I do want that too.
No Jungle Shadows though, I checked all the semp nurseries that I know of, no luck.

I will find this plant, Jungle Shadows can run, but he cannot hide! Hilarious!

Terry,

You might try writing Toby to see if he has stock. I gave him a good bit of stock two years ago.

There are several 'Jungle Shadows' seedlings that are improvements. Both 'Polly Bishop' and 'Helen Payne' are from self-pollinations and 'Borscht', ''Heart of Darkness' and 'Patent Leather Shoes' are from 'Killer' X 'Jungle Shadows'. 'Jungle Fires' is from open pollination.

I tip my hat to you.

Oh Greg I'm in a corner crying now; you've insulted my baby! NOT!!! You do realize I was 12 when I hybridized that plant!

'Jungle Shadows' was the first of the semps for the color to last all season and it passes that onto its progeny. Like any great parent, it has been replaced by its children and grandchildren. I hadn't realized that 'Jungle Fires' was behind many of Betty Bronow's Lord of the Rings series after getting hold of her breeding records.

Greg,

It's not a package deal! You can like me and not all of my hybrids. Even I don't like some of them any more!

Of course you don't realize what things were like in 1969. With 300 plants you could have all the semp cultivars then available. Polly had everyone available in America then. In the summer EVERY ONE WAS GREEN. There were few bright reds and no good purples. That is why Helen was so excited by 'Lipstick' and 'Jungle Shadows'. Things like that hadn't existed previously. they both won awards in Europe because they hadn't seen anything like them either. Anyway, there are a few of these from the seventies that still look surprisingly good to me eyes and are proving to be interesting parents. 'Flasher', 'Frost & Flame', 'Mulberry Wine' and 'Silver Song' still find favor with me. 'Flasher' has given some incredibly bright colors like 'Orange Glow'.

Of course without 'Jungle Shadows' there would be no 'Jungle Fires' as it's a seedling of JS. They of course are apples and oranges for color. 'Jungle Fires' is RED and 'Jungle Shadows' is PURPLE AND GREY.

Kevin I love Lipstick, lost mine last year and luckily my semp buddies up here in WA state gave me some last Friday! Today I planted it saying "wow I really love this plant!" Such a bright red that glows in spring! I tip my hat to you.
As you know I really do appreciate the plant side as well as the music side of what you do!! Hurray!
I forgot Jungle Fire is a baby of Jungle Shadows, I thought they were sibs - glad you told me that!
I tip my hat to you.

Greg,

OK you've redeemed yourself now! 'Lipstick' can get HUGE too. I have seen plants over 8", sometimes 9. Hope Toby will be able to list then again soon.
