I just sent my vote in to the AHS robin for their online poll for which cultivar is going to win the Stout. Since I am no longer a garden judge, I did not participate in the "real" voting.

Let's do our own poll here at ATP. Vote here in this thread. It would be great if you tell us a little about why you vote for a certain plant, and why you did not vote for others. If your zone is not in your signature, if you could include it in your vote, that would help others when they read your post.

You do not need to be an AHS Garden Judge to vote... All ATP members eligible!

The Stout Medal winner is to be announced on Friday. That gives us a few days. I will count all votes timestamped before midnight on Thursday.

Here are the candidates.

Oh boy, What a list. Almost all I do not grow. Two I used to grow and tossed out of the garden. One I still grow but was considering tossing this summer. Another I grow but it is nothing special. In short I can not come up with anything on the entire list I could choose. Sad

It is such a difficult choice.

I have these, but new this year so not yet blooming:

Grey Witch
Spacecoast Sea Shells
Thin Man
Vatican City

Want at least a dozen more off that list. Sticking tongue out

If I haaaaave to vote for just one, then I'd pick:
Creature of the Night
Hurray! Hurray!

I have SC Sea shells, Lies & lipstick, Francois Verhaert and Savanah Debutante. Out of those I have not been impressed by any but Savannah debutante. And I'm really not that into doubles either.
My vote would be for savanah debutante for consistent heavy and long bloom time and large bloom too. The other three may leave the garden one day when I'm in need of space.

My pick would be Spacecoast Gold Bonanza. It performed so well even though it was the first year here.

I was one of the first 300 contributors to the plant database!
I grow the following in zone 5, Kansas:
BELLE COOK short, doesn't multiply (although not in a good location)
DESTINED TO SEE wonderful daylily! Vigorous, beautiful flowers and pod fertile.
GEORGE JETS ON Does well here. Cute flower although color is a little muddy
GREY WITCH Vigorous plant with lots of scapes and bloom.
HOLLY DANCER Great intense red spider.
JULIE NEWMAR Gorgeous flower. Slow to multiply in my yard, but love it!
MYNELLE'S STARFISH Love the flower but quite short
NORTH WIND DANCER Absolutely wonderful daylily in my garden. Lots of bloom, gorgeous cascade UF late in the season. Got my official vote and it gets my unofficial vote too!
PALACE GARDEN BEAUTY Does OK here. Pretty flower.
PERSIAN RUBY Very nice daylily, but I have others similar to it that I like better, particularly SPRINGFIELD CLAN.
TAOS Beautiful bloom but gets leaf streak badly here
TAR AND FEATHER Showy flower.
THIN MAN New here last summer. Too soon to judge
VATICAN CITY Gorgeous purple! Could use a little more sun to perform better here.
VICTORIAN LACE Another beautiful flower that might multiply better if it had more sun.
WILSON SPIDER A favorite in my garden!

I would have voted for Holly Dancer if I was still a garden judge. Choosing between Holly and Nutmeg Elf was a hard decision. NE is a real performer here. i have grown quite a few on the list at one time or another.

Of the others that people voted for:
I've never grown Northwind Dancer because I have heard so many times that it leans.
Spacecoast Gold Bonanza grew here many years and did pretty well for a southern plant, but I don't think the bud count was ever over 10.
American Freedom - I saw this several times in John Rice's greenhouse. Didn't think it would live here, so glad to see the good reports from farther north than I am. Perhaps I will run across a good deal on it one of these days.

So, here was our unofficial vote

AMERICAN FREEDOM 1
CREATURE OF THE NIGHT 1
DESTINED TO SEE 1/2
HOLLY DANCER 1
NORTH WIND DANCER 2-1/2
SAVANNAH DEBUTANTE 1
SPACECOAST GOLD BONANZA 3

Looks like Spacecoast Gold Bonanza is our winner, with Northwind Dancer close on it's heels. (I did count Fred's wife, as he said they both voted for it - so she must be a garden judge)
I gave 1/2 each to Destined to See and Northwind Dancer because Betty could not make up her mind on them. Whistling

They lean for me sometimes, especially with wind, but I have those circle stakes I got from Lowe's to keep them pretty upright.

Good to know that Lowe's carries the circle stakes. I sure could use those for Rosy Lights and Erin Farmer who tend to lean for me.
