The new catalog arrived this morning and the website has been updated for the 2012 season:

http://www.edmundsroses.com/

The only thing I see that I really want is Music Box, a pink and yellow new Ping Lim shrub. His roses are so blackspot-free in my garden that they're a pleasure to grow. Unfortunately, Edmunds' is selling it as an own-root plant. All of my other Lim roses are grafted, so I hope this one performs as well as the others.

There are lots and lots of new roses, but Edmunds' was so late in posting them that I already ordered them from S&W and Regan.

Cinnamon Dolce is one other new rose I haven't ordered from anyone else that looks intriguing, but I hesitate to pay $21.95 for an own-root hybrid tea because I'm not sure I trust own-root hybrid teas.

Edmunds' Roses is also offering Clematis for the first time -- five nice cultivars at fairly reasonable prices.

Edmunds' did that sneaky thing again, pretending a rose is brand new when it's been around for a few years now under other names.

Raspberry Cream Twirl (MEItaratol), a climber they say was hybridized in 2013 (!!!), is actually Ines Sastre, also known as Colibri Farbfestival.

Oh no, now they're promoting roses the way they do cars. We can but next year's model and the one after that too!

Well, this is infuriating. I tried to place an order on the Edmunds website, and when I got to the checkout, I saw that I must have inadvertently clicked on the button for the rose marker for one rose instead of the button for the rose itself. Luckily, I noticed the price of $4.95 before I went any further. It would be truly ludicrous to have a marker and no rose to go with it. So, I added the rose, but here's the problem: I can't find any way to remove the silly engraved marker from my order. I ultimately closed the window and now I suppose I'll either place the order by telephone tomorrow or try doing it from my other e-mail address.

Where do you see that it's MEltaratol? I've looked all over HMF, Meilland International, and on Edmunds' site so I can see how they're being sneaky like J&P does. Maybe I'm just blind?

On page 5 of the catalog, it's called 'Raspberry Cream Twirl (PPAF, Var.: MEItaratol)'

I ordered it, of course, because any rose with 100+ petals belongs right here! Some of the HMF information is wrong. It's a climber, so it's probably the 10-12 feet the catalog says, rather than the short height HMF gives it.

I also ordered Cinnamon Dolce, Music Box, Lady Ashe, Whimsy, All a'Twitter, and a Clematis (Patricia Ann Fretwell).

Sorry, Toni. The catalog says MEItaratol, but HMF says MEIteratol. I guess I was taken to that page automatically by the search engine yesterday and didn't notice the difference in spelling. Or maybe they changed it, because today they added Raspberry Cream Twirl as one of its names, but they still have it at 4-6 feet.

ahh.. I haven't gotten the catalog yet & was just going by the website. I'm thinking that Edmunds probably has some of the former employees from J&P or figured that, since J&P was in a successful business for so many years, let's copy what they do & figure that people are stupid & will buy just any ol' "New" thing.

I've never ordered from Edmunds. They send lovely catalogs, and one of the nurseries here ordered from them. When that nursery closed, they sold me their rose collection for $5 apiece, so I have most of what Edmunds offers. Do they ship good-sized plants? They have a couple of newer ones I really want. Zuzu, I could only find the 1 Ping Lim rose. Were there more?
Shipping prices are reasonable, and I'm assuming these are shipped bare root?
My internet is so slow today that I can't get through all the pages on that site.

The plants aren't as good as they were before Jung bought the name, but the policies are still the same, and they evidently still have the same deal with Meilland and Weeks to allow them to offer roses some other nurseries won't have until next year.

They used to send nothing but bare-root roses. Now I see they're offering some on their own roots, probably to cut costs, and I don't know whether those will be sent bare-root or in containers.

I don't think there are any other Ping Lim roses in this year's catalog, but there might be some there. I tend not to notice roses I already own when I'm "shopping" for new ones.

Cindi - what I don't like is that they use USPS for shipping. But their roses weren't in bad shape at all. Not like Palatine or GVR, but not bad in the least. I'm planning on ordering from them.

Thanks, ladies.
I love that Koko Loco, just based on photos you have posted here.
Do they send a notice when they ship? I see you have to pay extra to choose a shipping date, and my zone has a 2 month span when they may ship. Kinda like paying extra to bring your luggage...makes me want to shop elsewhere. If they'll send a notice, I can make sure the box doesn't get left in the sun for a week. Maybe a picky thing, but I don't like surprises and not knowing it's coming could mean the roses perish. I've dealt with daylily sellers that won't give you a date more specific than a certain month because they have to wait for good growth and weather, but I can usually get most to send a click and ship email. Hmmm maybe I'm just trying to talk myself out of ordering?

Cindi, as I recall, there's no advance notice of shipping, and the roses do come as a surprise.

Koko Loco is available at a lot of places, though, so maybe you should look into Regan's or S&W Greenhouse or Rosemania.

Cindi - Actually, I picked up a Koko Loko locally. And no, they don't notify when they ship.. one day nothing, the next you have a box at your door. I hate that, personally. If you'd like, I'm almost 100% positive that I'll be able to find a Koko Loko locally.. I can pick one up for you & ship it to you if you'd like. I've done that for a couple of people here. Smiling Speaking of which...

Zuzu - how did your Orchid Masterpiece fair out? Mine went to town and bloomed & bloomed & bloomed & bloomed!!

Mine produced just one bloom all year. It was a pretty one though. Smiling I think I planted it at the very worst time and I didn't cut it down enough before I planted it because it had so much nice new growth on it. The new growth was frizzled by a heat wave within days, however, so that was really a bad decision. The combination of shipping shock, transplant shock, and heat wave was almost lethal.

It has some buds on it now, so I should be seeing a second flush any day.

I'm finding some discerning info in the Edmunds catalog (just got it in yesterday's mail). Cinnamon Dolce states that it's MEItadeha. HMF has it as MEItaheda. Had to find it by the common name. So which do I follow? HMF or Edmunds? Getting kinda leery now... but I really want some of these roses (K&M, Sparkle & Shine, Music Box..). But I'd also love to find one of the parents of Sparkle & Shine.. Julie Newmar!! Wow! http://www.helpmefind.com/rose...

I couldn't find it on the Meilland site, and I hate Google thinking it knows more than I about what I want. It insisted on showing me "Meathead" instead of "Meitaheda." Hilarious!

I remember Julie Newmar. It came out not long ago and promptly disappeared. Whenever HMF says Armstrong has a rose, I feel a strong sense of futility. Armstrong is like a big black hole. It took me years to find Tootsie and Paul Ecke, Jr. because Armstrong apparently gives up on certain roses but won't let anyone else sell them either.

Believe it or not, a lot of Home Depot's roses last year came from Armstrong! Their tags were usually buried quite deep in the potting soil, but almost 100% of my Sterling Silvers are Armstrong roses.

Yes, but why do they hide certain ones away and not let anyone else sell them?

Cliff had to jump through many hoops before Armstrong would let him sell Paul Ecke, Jr., and I still don't know how Rogue Valley got hold of Tootsie.
