It has come up that folks don't know who they are dealing with when on the LA. As in all areas of life, there are good and bad sellers on the LA. Some are wonderful, and some are unscrupulous. So I am starting this thread so folks can refer back to it, and see who has dealt with what sellers, and what their experiences are. Granted, the LA has a comments section, but how honest are folks, really, when putting in comments? I do review it, but am not sure what "flags" to look for to warn me off.

Since plunging into the LA almost a year ago, I have dealt with the following sellers:
So far I have purchased plants from :

Bearwme,

Abundantdaylilies,

Ponsidegardens: Pondside Gardens actually refunded my money for one plant, because according to the seller, when dug, one of my purchases didn't match her standards. Interestingly enough, that was the only duplicate I bought (yes purposely - I loved the flower so much, I wanted one for the cottage and one for my house, and didn't want to wait until the clump got larger)

Tree_climber,

Zildjian,

1rockypug,

Lighthousegal (our own Cynthia),

Spunky1 (our own Fred Manning)

Bubbles. (Mary Jane Meadows - Westbourne)

All of my plants arrived looking good, and healthy. Some sent bonus plants.

I have also purchased seeds from:

Pondsidegardens,

Emery,

R117,

Sscape,

Jwb4trw.

All of those came well packed, and almost every seed germinated.

I appreciate when people have the same internet names, and it is easy for me to 'recognize' who people are, but also understand that is not always possible.

Feel free to post names of who you have dealt with on the LA - good and bad. There seems to be a lot of new sellers on there right now that I don't recognize, and that makes me leery. But as mentioned in another thread, how does one build up sales, if noone purchases from them if they are new? ~Jan

Jan, thank you so much for doing this. That's exactly what has kept me from buying on the auction.

Positive Experiences -- my favorites to purchase from:

Fred Manning (Spunky1) - Daylily Place
John DeMory (De)
Mary Jane Meadows (Bubbles) - Westbourne Daylilies
Michele (Tink3472) - Our own Michele - just started selling!
Mary Gaskins (Gran) - Gaskins Daylilies

Negative Experience - Won't purchase from again:

Osugrad - This may have been a one-time fluke, as he seems to have positive ratings -- I have not
rated my purchase from him yet

I really haven't purchased from any others, but I'll try to update this if and when I do.

Since I am a hemaholic (over 400 and still growing) and have used the LA (as a buyer and seller) these are some I've used over the past couple of years. I can't remember all the sellers I've purchased from .

Goldcoast - Bonnie Holley
perennialist - Keith Miner
bubbles - MaryJane Meadows ( the plants I received needed at least 2 growing seasons to really show their stuff)
Zildjian -
curve - bought hostas from as well as daylilies
Jb-
Lighthousegal-
annettesmagic - Annette Rice - have bought off the auction as well as directly through Thoroughbred Daylilies
Nrb44- plant markers (he also sells on Ebay)
pjinpa - Paul Owen
penny

Seeds, I've bought from:
Emery
Northman
Lilydude

I've had positive and negative experiences on the LA in regards to orders received. Any bad experiences(2 ) were resolved with my either getting a refund or a replacement. I don't leave positive feedback for a negative transaction. I also go through the LA administrators when issues arise. There are "bad buyers" on the LA who don't pay, so be careful if your a seller. Feedback doesn't always tell the whole story. Rolling my eyes.

I do want to put in a plug for buying directly from sellers who are known in the daylily community. Curt Hanson - Crintonic Gardens, Brent Ross - Cottage Gardens, Bill Maryott - Maryott Gardens who as far as I know, don't sell on the LA.

I must remember--Do not buy more fl
The only person I have had a negative experience with on LA is Lilylassie. I ordered a couple of clumps and expected to pay the full shipping charge ($15) for one and the reduced charge for the other ($2). I was charged full shipping for both. When I questioned it, she said they were so big she had to ship them in separate boxes. But they came in just one box and they weren't all that big. I removed her from my list so I won't order from her again.
Some of my more favorable sellers:

Fred,
I haven't seen Boxcar sell anything on LA recently. Is everything ok with him? Or have I just managed to miss him. He always had great seed.

I also have bought from:
Jamie - One of my first buys and she is fantastic!!
Markarmand - Bought some of the best seeds from Mark, many many seeds!!!
Oldfool - Bought from him this year and will be back
Kendaylily - Bought bunches of plants and this year seedlings -- Wonderful!!!

These just off the top of my head. I've bought from several more and all have been good to fantastic. I think we all can say that "Most" on LA are wonderful growers, sellers and just plain old fashioned good people!!

Blessings to all, Mona

Hi. I recently started shopping on LA. Most experiences have been quite good.

Redcajun - sent large fans that were very healthy. No bonus but I'm more interested in getting more, (larger and healthier), of what I ordered and therefore love. Packed well and arrived moist and unstressed.

3amigrows - shipped late due to error (I didn't put auction # on Paypal payment), but was definitely worth the wait. Double fan was 1 medium/large fan and one small triple fan. Bonus was a medium double fan. All were healthy and packaged well so arrived moist and unstressed. Very pleasant gentleman to deal with.

chocolatechiphorses - all fans were large green and healthy.Bonus was first tier.Well packaged and arrived in great shape and unstressed.

10acdeacon - Triple fan was 1 medium and 2 small fans each about 20% the size of the medium fan. Fans wrapped in gift wrap arrived dessicated and stressed. Seller got defensive when told and instructed me to return them. I had already placed them in B solution to revive them and a trip standing in line at PO to return and trying to repackage so plants wouldn't be DOA didn't appeal.Seller finally gave me a discount which amounted to what the fans should have sold for if not represented as a triple. To be fair the fans all did have a good root system and she did offer to pay shipping both ways. Still she acted angry and insulted. I left a pos review because she did try to work things out and they did have good roots. Yes take everything with a grain of salt. No-one seems to have negs on feedback.
I'm learning to look for key words and enthusiasm.

Mljomo - Don't know yet, but I've been waiting awhile and know payment has been received. Getting ready to contact and see what the holdup is. Hopefully fan will be large.

Mljomo;s fan arrived healthy and large so definitely worth wait. ALL of Chocolatechiphorses fans are starting to bloom less than 2 months after planting, even the bonus.

I am about to offer some things on the LA

but these negative feedbacks concern me.

In the north, no way can we compete with hunky fans from mid states or southern states.

In the north, if you buy southern hunky fans, they need to adjust to the northern climate and can be set back a year.

Do you all take that into consideration?

For instance -

A cleaned UF or spider DIP will have rather small fans.

A DIP usually has smaller fans than a TET

Some people (me) have a later growing season than others even in the same zone

Therefore Zones don't count.

I always ship good root systems and as nice a plant/mini clump that I can. But - I believe in spring plants arriving with better bottoms than tops. Let them grow in your area.

What say you on these questions?
