Was talking with people at another site and we wondered which varieties were really slug resistant. last year was a really bad year for slugs in my garden and some that usually do pretty well were full of holes. But quite a few did really well. For most of these, the latest pics I took was Aug. 9, but last year, some of my hostas were full of holes by that time.

These are the survivors - I'd like to see pictures of what survived best in YOUR gardens.

'Alligator Shoes' - Aug. 9

'Blue Ivory' - a member of the 'Halcyon' -'June' family which all did well. (Aug. 3)


'Christmas Pageant' - Aug. 9 (another young plant)


'Country Mouse' - Aug. 9 (the only mini, other than those belonging to the "Mouse Ears" family, that did well against the slugs).


'Cutting Edge' on Aug. 9 showed almost no damage.


'Emerald Ruff Cut' on Aug. 3

'First Frost' did pretty well. This is located in one of the most slug-filled parts of my garden. Aug. 9


'fortunei Aureomarginata' never gets bothered much by slugs. Aug. 9


'Full Moon' hiding under 'Regal Splendor' has thick leaves. Got a bit muddy because I never got new mulch in the garden last year. Also Aug. 9


'Great Expectations' had little or no slug damage. Aug. 9

'High Society' - Aug. 27 - again - 'June' family


'Ice Age Trail' - Aug. 9 Thick leaves though it's not as streaky as is once was.

'Orange Marmalade' has held up quite well. Aug. 9 (note 'Undulata Aureomarginata' behind it - like Swiss cheese.

'Punky'. Also Aug. 9 and this one is also in one of the worst areas of my garden for slugs.

'Restless Sea' August 27 had SOME damage, but not a lot.


'Ripple Effect' - August 9 virtually no damage. Another of the 'Halcyon-June' family.

'Stained Glass' - Aug 9 - held up pretty well - better than the plants around it.


'Touch of Class' - Aug. 9 - no slug damage. But the plant was misshapen because I dropped a spade onto it in the spring.


These were the ones that did best last year. It was much worse than usual for the number of slugs.

I really love that 'Restless Sea' and knowing it's slug status is a plus. Might, get one of those.

I love remember me. I did order one from ilovehostas.net, been eye-balling it for a long time. Glad to know its slug resistant.

For me Pauls Glory is tuff as nails, love this hosta!

Most of my hostas are young and I haven't figured out if the damage that I've seen is from slugs, earwigs perhaps, other insects... or all of the above. Some of my hostas that seemed okay in August, turned into choice greens for some critters by September. Oddly, my new Patriot seemed to have the worst damage by the end of the season--maybe due to its location or maybe it was just tender its first year?

Here are the ones that had the least damage in my garden by August/September:

Dixie Chick - August 14 - It looked the same as of September 18--just the photo was blurry. I believe I received it last spring as a bonus plant from Floral & Hardy.


Krossa Regal - September 18 - It had just a few nibblies.


Little Miss Magic - August 14 - Another new one for me that looked the same as of September 18--just the photo was rather dark. It had minimal nibbling in an overgrown part of the garden--I think I had to remove some other hosta's leaves to take its picture!


Little Treasure - August 14 & September 18 - From little/no damage (mostly tree litter on the leaves in the first pic) to some minor nibbles.

Paradise Glory - July 21 - Another newbie that I didn't take any photos of later for some reason, but I remember that it looked good at the end of the season.


Sweet Innocence - August 14 & September 18 - From little/no damage to munched, but I suppose by then the ferns are looking nasty anyway! The brunnera next to it looked like it was feasted on well before this hosta too.



Touch of Class - September 18 - The nibbled green leaves at the top are from a noid that I need to move.

Looking pretty good Ann. Love touch of class, I have a small one I bought last year, good to know it will hold up well. Let me see what else holds up well. Ok.
