This is my 4th year wintersowing, and I'm addicted. I'm doing fewer and fewer indoors, under lights each year- after battling damp off and fungus gnats the last couple of years, I'm about to just devote my light set up to Coleus and Begonias and forget the seeds inside altogether. In the past I've mostly wintersown perennials, and it is the easiest way I've found to start them. Last year I started doing more annuals, including a lot of tender ones that I waited till March to sow, with great success. Now I've got 100 jugs sown, mostly perennials and some hardy annuals, and the next wave is about to begin- told ya I was addicted, LOL! Here's the list so far:

Wow, nice list, Neal. Are some of those rudbeckias grandchildren of my green-eyed ones? Mine have stayed stable through several generations.

Karen, they sure are Smiling LOVED them, what a show they put on with white trumpet lilies and blue Chinese forget me not! You're the one who's really gotten me going on Rudbeckias, now that I know I can grow them, I'm hooked!

Thanks Linda, I sure will. Every bit of data all of us in different zones collect and post is valuable to someone else out there too. It helps me to stay organized too. Ya know, I haven't purchased the first pack of seed this year! It blows me away to look at that list, but they all came from swaps or that I've collected.

Neal--those rubeckias are beautiful with the white lilies. You must have a significant amount of space for all of those lovely plants. And how fun to think of all of the beautiful gardens that your trades came from, as well as those that will benefit from all of the wonderful seeds from your garden.

Thanks Linda! Yep, lots of space to plant here (18 acres, with 5 acres of yard space), more than I could ever possibly keep up with, as much as I'd like to see it all in garden space, LOL.

Joanne, several of these are new for me too. I love discovering new plants!

I have germination in another container this morning! While I roll my eyes during the holiday season when the song plays, its spring when I find myself singing "It's the most wonderful time of the year", LOL.

The container germinating this morning is labeled 'Columbine Blue Barlow', but the seedlings don't quite look like Columbine seedlings? I'm wondering if I mixed up some tags. Columbine seeds are pretty distinctive looking, so I don't think the seeds themselves were mislabeled.

Germination in another container today! Dianthus caryophyllus sprouts greeted me this morning.

Took a close look at the container labeled 'Columbine Blue Barlowe' this morning, and now that the seedlings have unfurled a bit more, I'm pretty sure they're actually Dianthus of some kind, probably D.armeria (since I only sowed 3 kinds and that's the only other one that hasn't sprouted).

I do something similar every year, Neal...This year despite what I thought was a well thought out 'assembly line' I still ended up with 3 unlabeled containers and planted one container twice. I blame it on the excitement, lol!

Bev, seems no matter how organized I am with it, there's always 1 or 2 I mess up, I do blame it on excitement, LOL.

Wow, Neal, I'm in awe of your list of WS'd plants! You have an amazing collection there. I found your comment about not buying any seeds this year to be reflective of my own efforts now that I'm saving and swapping seeds. It's great fun and, goodness, does it ever tend to broaden my horizons!

I've tried to scale back my WS efforts this year, because last year I had so much that some of them perished waiting for me to find a place to put them. This year I have fewer jugs and tried to limit my choices to fit the space I have available. It's so hard to do, though. I get so excited during the cold months when it's time to start WSing. Whee, it's planting time!

Please post pics when yours start blooming!

Thanks Angie! Try as I may to scale back, I keep ending up with at least 100 containers. I'm a plant pig, LOL. Thankfully, this year no new beds are planned. I had the same problem last year with dwindling seedlings waiting for a home, and who am I kidding?...I'm sure it will happen again this year, LOL.

I'm anxious for the sun to come up so I can check the jugs today!

Just be patient Andi, it depends on what kind of seeds you've sown. A lot of mine show up through April and then some stragglers in May or June.

More germination today! What a lift those little green babies are right now! Today I noted 1 seedling in each jug of magenta Hollyhocks and Charmer Salmon Flax, and several in jugs of yellow Mexican Hat, Elecampane, and pink and white Digitalis.

I got my 2nd container with sprouts today. I have some dianthus that came through today; I had one other container that sprouted a week ago. Only about 15 or so left to go. We're expected to have nice weather through the weekend, then back to freezing temps for a few days. I want seedlings!!!!!!!!!!!
