Whew! March came in like a lion in our part of the world!
Today should be better. I have daffodils in bud and crocus in bloom. The roses are leafing out even though I keep telling them to hold off for a few more weeks.
I went to our scaled-down garden show yesterday, and the only roses there were knockouts. Angry Succulents seem to be the big star this year. I think it's a response to all our dry heat last year. I was hoping to see some of the new petunias. I would like to plant them in the rose bed, and take out the verbena.

This was a week of lots and lots of rain here. Rained again late yesterday and overnight and in the morning. Trying to clear up now. This after rains Monday and then more Wednesday and Thursday including all night. The ground is so wet and so is the mulch I have all over the garden.

Well, you won't believe this but I'm about to go out back and do some -- hand-watering! We've only had half as much rain as we need, and even though it rained 1/4" in February it's warming up here and expected to be in the 80's for most of the next week. So I'd love to have some rain!

We have low 70's today and warm the rest of the week. Weeding is going well as the soil is moist from the recent heavy rain but I suspect, like Betty, the watering of pots will be needed the rest of the week too.

Cindi, I added a rose photo to your post since it's a Sticky thread for the month and helps pretty up our forum page! Whistling Thumbs up Green Grin!

Wow! I was going to ask how that picture got there, but then I read your post, Sue. Beautiful!

I've been digging holes for roses and clematis today. 12 so far. Can't plant anything in the holes until the sun goes down. It was like a steam bath out there while I was digging, so I came in to wash my hair and have some ice cream.

Thanks for adding the pic, Sue. Thumbs up
For once I'm grateful for our weather. No steam bath here, and no deep snow, either! Just chilly enough to wear a jacket, and plenty good for digging and raking. instead of digging, though, I was outside staining woodwork all afternoon. Maybe tomorrow I'll get to plant all my new strawberry and rhubarb plants. I was craving strawberry rhubarb pie, but there is no rhubarb to be found in any store around. Not fresh or frozen. I just finished the last of my frozen rhubarb, and it will be a while before these plants give me any stalks. Crying Crying I did buy one root the size of a large cantaloup so maybe it will produce sooner.

Frozen in the tundra.. er, here in Colorado. LOL! Green Grin! Friday was crazy as a bedbug (never understood that.. bedbugs aren't crazy, they don't have enough brains to be crazy) with snow, then wind, then sun, then snow, then wind, then sun.. Definitely lion like.. I just hope that means that the end of the month will be lamb-like! Can't do anything much outside, ground's still frozen solid. But with all the snow we've gotten my mulch looks like crapzilla, so I'm going to have to put down fresh mulch and make it look more presentable. I had a couple of agastache leaves coming up, but they've been buried under a ton of snow, so nothing's growing except for the catnip.. that damned stuff is impossible to kill! The vinca's still green, though. Nothing's swelling, so I know that spring's still a ways away. When I smell skunk, then I know that spring's here. But for now, all I can do is look at pictures from last year and dream of warmer days.. which is what we're getting next week (supposed to get up into the 70s!! That makes for a very squishy yard as soon as the rest of the snow melts.) Here's Circus.

I always think of spring when my crocus bloom. Today I have three crocus blooming so that means it must officially be spring in my garden. I used to have more crocus, I just don't anymore what with all the garden bed redos. I have decided that I will definately plant a really large amount of them this fall so that I don't have any problems finding crocus blooming next spring. Hilarious!

Tuesday the high was 73. Yesterday the high was about 40 (don't know exactly), with snow & freezing fog. Last night around dusk the clouds finally started to break & I got these shots here while driving home:

Today it's supposed to be in the upper 40s, then shooting up into the 60s this weekend. Looks like spring's almost here! The grounds almost soft enough for me to work with, so I'm going to see if I can dig holes & transplant the last of the west-side roses over to the east side of the back yard & get that west-side ready for the honeysuckle.

Yesterday, it was 72 outside, but what a waste because the wind was blowing 35-40 mph all day long. Then in the evening the wind shifted and clouds rolled in and then the fun started. We had hail, thunder lightning and rain up until about 2 am then it changed to pea sized sleet balls and then crunchy high speed snow. So we had a bit of everything within 12 hours. Crazy stuff! It is just beautiful here today. Sunny and springlike. Many of the MARIA daffodils I have in a section of my front yard have just come open. I just love the colors on these. They are so cheerful.

Went to the zoo today.. saw my first spring flower, a crocus, there. Figured that it's warm enough (hit 63degs today), so when I got home decided to start digging holes. I have 9 roses to transplant from the west side to the east side, and so I dug 9 holes. Green Grin! The last two I dug were still kinda icy, so I'll dig out & transplant tomorrow as it's getting late here & I don't want to water this late in the day (water early in the morning so it can saturate down before it freezes). Did some other minor spring cleaning.. raking up dead leaves (I don't rake the leaves but twice a year from my maple.. once in the fall & once in the spring as I want the leaves to act as natural mulch),debating on resetting paver stones.. you know, basic spring cleaning. Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

Hey, it is finially daylight savings time again. Hurray! Hurray! I really like the longer days it gives us what with more daylight in the evening. I never get up too early in the day anyway, so don't care if it is dark at 6 AM or not. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Some of the electronic clocks here change themselves like the one on the computer and the ones in the cable TV boxes. Then ones like my wristwatch, which I only wear when going out to do errands so that I have an idea of what time it is, were never taken off daylilght savings so are an hour off in winter. Whistling Hilarious! They are correct now! Thumbs up And the three other clocks I just change myself. I really never thought about it before but I seem to have an aweful lot of clocks. Rolling my eyes.
