Just saw these yesterday and after checking around, it seems to be one of the Cactus Longhorn Beetle species. They are eating on one prickly pear cactus, mostly the new growth. I went and checked the Cholla Cactus on the front slope of my property that is going to bloom soon...and thankfully, none of them found on that cactus. Should be really beautiful when that cholla blooms, so I didn't want anything to spoil that!

That's a cool closeup showing the wings! I'm sure there are some people who don't even know that they HAVE wings!

I am surprised to see that mantid then..that area is the lair of our black widow spider. Hmm..maybe it saw the spider and felt like showing its wings.

I love dragonflies! I'm not sure if I've seen any on my place this year.

The dragonfly is back again today, 07May, this time found by the hanging basket of spider plants.

Thanks Sharon! Big Grin I love taking shots of dragonflies, they really keep still, and not flutter about too much.

Isn't nature beautiful? What would this world be without dragonflies? I hope I never have to find out.

These katydids are everywhere around here! Had seen them before, but this outbreak seems even worse this year than it was in 2010.

This time around I saw an interesting yellow and black insect enjoying at my wilting Salvia subrotunda. Thanks to Janet of Bugslife cubits, got the ID as a newly hatched ladybug! Cool!!! At least beneficial insects are hanging around..and I also saw its pupa.

The yellow and black lady bug..no dots yet:

Ah, ladybugs! This is one of the Red Katydids that are like a plague upon central Texas this year. The adults are here, but this one is still a nymph, I think.

Just too many of them (they call it an "outbreak") and they do eat foliage. Lacy Oak must be especially like candy to them, all the leaves are in tatters!

These Red Yucca blooms look like something has been eating lunch, then maybe dinner also. And maybe these insects are what had such a hearty appetite?
