Very nice Mona

We shipped out Special Ovation the other day and I noticed on the bloom that it had all that extra fleshy stuff on the midribs (midrib cristate). It wasn't doubling, it actually had the midrib cristate form going on. If you go to this link and scroll all the way to the bottom to the Trimmer photo, it had that look to it. http://www.daylilies.org/ahs_d...
I wish I would have taken a photo, but I was in the middle of being extremely busy and just didn't do it.

I'm not sure how often it may throw that form, but maybe you will get some of that going on in some seedlings if you use the seedlings above in your hybridizing. It may be a recessive trait or it may have just been a one time deal, who knows Shrug!

I took this from over on Dot's bloom thread to here so we wouldn't be off topic so bad. Michele is giving me ideas for a local "yard sale" that will be a plant sale. She had suggested this classified, using Craig's List to give info on my sale, and Dave Garden site classified.

I was going to try to have a "yard sale" next week but I just don't know if I'll have enough blooming. If plants have bloomed, I will have a picture taken this year on the pot, if not, well, that just won't work. So, I may wait another good week which would through it out to the 17th. I think in 2 weeks, I should have alot blooming. I'll be able to tell more a week from now. I had 22 blooming today. I'd like to have around 100 blooming for the sale.

If you or anyone can think of good ways to put the daylily out there for a local sale, please don't hesitate to make a suggestion. Thanks to all, Mona

Mona, some states do not allow individuals to sell plants unless they have a license. Have you checked on the regulations in MS?

I haven't sold any yet. I also haven't checked on any local or state laws since I'm just going to do this as a "yard sale" type sale. I will have checked all laws before next year. I plan to become state inspected. It is on my list of things to do before next year. I know, i should have already done this but I've been swamped with so much this past year that I just couldn't take on another thing at that time. I have to do all my stuff in stages or I will get into a complete "tizzy" for the lack of saying I'd have a total mental breakdown.

My plants are just know recovering from being repotted last fall. I still have about 500 more that must be repotted before I try to sale them. They will be done right after bloom season, I will start with this then. So, Im going to try to weed out atleast 500 some way. I hope to sell as many as possible and then I'm going to start dropping them on peoples doorsteps at night. I can NOT compost a plant unless it's just plum pitiful and then I'd probably try to make it better!! This is the "nature & nuture" side of me. It's a side that I can not overcome, I think, I can't anyway.

I hear you, Mona, on composting plants. I have now gotten to the point of "tough love". The problem is when I throw daylily seedlings in the compost pile, they don't die. If I leave them lying on top of the compost all winter long, they still put out new growth in the spring. Now if this were a $200 daylily exposed to those conditions, it would certainly die!

nodding nodding Yeap, that'd be me too! If those poor little things want to grow that bad, who am I to say they gotta die??? I'd be better with throwing away bloomed seedlings than unbloomed. That unbloomed seedling might be midnight blue with a beautiful white eye and white rufffled edge with a faint gold highlight on the edge. Do you think I can throw away a seedling??? Not going to happen!!!

Yesterday when I pulled those few 25 pots to the sale area, I kept telling myself that they are pretty but not winners and they will go to good homes. That's how I managed to get them moved. I'm terrible!

I can't bear to compost things. I gave all my excess seedlings to a friend of my sons. Gave some more away also. If all else fails, set them on the curb with a "Free" sign. They will disappear in a hurry.
