I think we should all introduce our self’s. I know some of you but would love some new people to join in, the more the merrier.

The Pacific North West is such a wonderful place to garden. I live in Western Washington about an hour for Seattle. Having not garden any were else I must be a bit bias. I’m married with 2 college aged sons and 2 lab mix dogs. Some of my favorite plants are Heuchera, Sedum, Hellebores, Sempervivum and, just starting to get the daylily bug. My dad was a landscaper for years and I garden around mature rhododendrons and other plants he loved. My husband and I bought my parents’ house back in the 80’s, so I’ve been here all my life except for the few years out getting my education. A few pictures

Thanks "Spring" for sharing some info! I live in Seattle in an apartment, (going on 10 years now - where does the time go?) When moving in I asked if I could putter around in the yard and the management has been glad to have me do so! In my (humble) opinion I've done some beautiful improvements! I joined ATP thinking I was doing so to access the amazing database, and then I began interacting with folks and its been really fun! I'm just beginning (May of 1012) to start a Sempervivum (with some sedum) bed...the first batch of plants I planted for looks and didn't keep any labels and thought ('Oh how lovely! I wonder what it is??') This coincided with my joining here and realizing that most people want to know what their looking at (latin name and all!!) Its been good for me to learn! I have many succulents that are outside in summer and 'roommates' in winter, my apartment gets crazy busy in the winter Rolling on the floor laughing
Here is a photo of me up in Mt Ranier National Park, looking out towards Ranier (did you know there are wild semp and sedum looking plants! - I'm kidding...but I do love hiking in the mountains and coming across some species sedums/succulents!)

Greg!!! What is that glorious tree with the cobweb in the fog? It's beautiful, looks like ginkgo. And is moss growing on it?

I know, I'm way out of my zone, but my eyes got caught by that tree.

I'm Deb from the far reaches of north Snohomish County. Born and raised in Seattle, so a native PNWer. Two adult sons, both still in the area. My husband and I relocated to raw acreage when I was pregnant with Son #1 and we've been here ever since (32 years now), building a home, outbuildings, raising various animals, and designing and redesigning our surroundings. Son #2 recently graduated with Landscape Architecture degree which I take full advantage of. I work from home along with my companion Frankie - a boxer/shephard mix. Couple pics:

I only mov ed out here (Seattle / Everett, 1-2 miles from Possesion Sound) 5-6 years ago. I love the weather, the coffee, the beer and the people!

All-clay soil, hip deep in slugs, and roof & driveway covered in moss, but aren't we all?

Hi everyone! I am originally from just up across the border from a place called Chilliwack, about an hour east of Vancouver. Moved back to Seattle from Connecticut about 15 years ago now.
We live within Seattle limits but it is an area north of Ballard named North Beach of all things. We've been at this home since August.
I think the gardening will be different but exciting. I will be paying a lot more attention to the shade garden forum and whining in the semp forum about my lack of sun. Our back yard is a slope. Totally unusable..... I think. It needs to stay wild and "knit" the ground so it doesn't end up on the railway tracks. I had no idea how important drainage could be. The last few weeks have had wicked rains, a few "newbies" had not kept up with their storm drains, and there are still deep crevices where the soil washed away. It will be interesting.
My main love is sedum which morphed into semps because they are just so darn amazing and there are so many cool people to teach you about them. I'm plotting my next potting as we speak. I think they will have to stay in pots just to chase the sun.
I have the two dogs in my avatar Shaun (red and white) and Mbali. I still don't know where the camera is after the move, but I will find it and try and take some photos.

Welcome! How fun ya'll! Beautiful photos and love reading the bios! Sherri I have a brother who lives at 90th and 6th NW (so probably within a couple of miles from you :P) I go up that way all the time. I guess you're lucky you've chosen plants like semps and sedums to enjoy, since they do okay in pots Smiling
Peace to all of my fellow PNWers

Hi all you PNWers. I live in the beautiful Willamette Valley in Western Oregon, about 16 miles from Salem, OR. We've lived in this house since 1999 and things are still a work in progress. We lived in WA from 1967 to 1984 before moving to OR. I love both states and both the Eastern and Western halves.

I have the most wonderful husband of 51 years, four children, 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

I have a variety of plants, but the sempervivum seem to hold my fascination these last 11 years. Here are the raised beds. I have started adding small plants that will play nicely with the semps.

When someone kept asking me for a photo, I sent one of Fabio ... but they caught me in the act.

The last picture of myself that I liked was from High School! That was approximately from the Paleolithic era.

Edited to say:

Well, maybe the Neolithic era. We did have polished stone tools.

Well, I definitely want to be part of this good-looking bunch of people. Smiling

I'm in California, but in Sonoma County, far enough north to grow lots of azaleas, rhododendrons, camellias, fuchsias, and other "PNW" types of plants in the large shady areas of my garden.

I moved up here almost 30 years ago from Piedmont and I've been working on the garden ever since, mainly because there's little else to do in Sebastopol. Green Grin! I started out with a passion for irises, but began planting a few roses here and there for color during the rest of the year. Now I have about 2,000 rose bushes and the poor irises and other plants are confined to the spaces between roses, except in the shade, where I grow all sorts of zone-inappropriate things, including peonies and a large assortment of alpine plants. I have to dump ice trays on all of them in winter to make them bloom here in spring, however, because we just don't get enough frost here otherwise.

I doubt that I'll ever move farther north, partly because I'm particularly prone to S.A.D. and I crave constant sunlight to keep my spirits lifted, but I'm really going to enjoy seeing photos of "northern" plants growing in the proper conditions.

Here's a whole thread of garden photos for you, Greg. The second set of photos is supposed to be of the cats, but they're all in the garden anyway.

The thread "Zuzu's garden" in Garden Photos forum

Your image is correct. The cigarette would have to be hanging out of my mouth, after all, if my hands are full of ice cube trays. Hilarious!

Thanks, Greg. Veilchenblau's a great rose! It only blooms once a year, but that one flush of blooms is spectacular and lasts a long time. It's hardy to zone 4 and it grows to an impressive size quickly. It's also easy to work with because it's virtually thornless.
