Wow, that sure looks pretty. Spring on the calendar but you can't tell by the colder temps around here. They said the rest of March was going to be colder than normal also. I can't wait for it to warm up.

Yesterday I started on my spring garden chores. Next up, the spring rose prunning which I am starting on today. Usually takes me a few days to get done as I have so many roses.

35° & sunny I hope that the sun helps on melting the last snow. No 70° like last year, thank heavens. Hoping for a better gardening season.

I noticed this morning walking my dogs that the ducks are back! So better weather MUST just be around the corner. I couldn't help thinking that the ducks must be like "What the Quack!"

Thanks Rita and Chelle!
Getting lots of rain tomorrow.
Unusually cool temps in 40's and 50's days.
Crazy... Was 70 last week and A/C on.
Daffodils are in full bloom.

This comming week will be the last week in March and winter is still really hanging on in my garden. I keep looking and carfefully looking but no matter how much I look, not very much is even thinking of turning green. And I am so impatient as I have a lot of exciting things to look forward to blooming.

Only a very few daylies here and there are starting to grow with a half an inch of green growth. Most of them are doing nothing as yet. It makes the garden look so sorry what with no green growth.

Same with my massive amounts of spring bulbs. Only some of them are up yet. And only my very earliest species crocus are blooming. Waiting for the others to show.

Meantime I am doing my spring rose prunning, started yesterday. Hope to be done by tomorrow.

And I am still on my overwinter exercise and loose weight plan. I just want that scale to move to show my weight going downwards. Not happening even with all the exerecise. This is one of my plateaus in weight it seems to happen. I get stuck at a weight. It must be my body needs to adjust to that weight before I will loose again. Getting outside working in the garden should help but it is still so cold out there I can't stay too long, need to keep taking breaks to go back inside and warm up.

Daylilies trying to get some spring growth. Most aren't doing anything yet though.
Thumb of 2013-03-24/Newyorkrita/d5af34

You can't even see the daylily folliage in this garden section but you can see the tulips comming up in front of the daylilies.
Thumb of 2013-03-24/Newyorkrita/06ca93

Closeup.

Just a few daffs are blooming. I was looking carfeully today and lifting mulch in some areas and did see lots more daffs poking folliage above ground.

Thumb of 2013-03-24/Newyorkrita/d6febf

These early crocus bloom here along a front yard path.
Thumb of 2013-03-24/Newyorkrita/07e475

A tommy crocus is the only one up along its section. Tiny little thing.

Front yard trellis garden. I didn't get much bloom on the daffs there this year. Don't know why. Tulips in front of those daffs are comming up.

They are predicting some snow for us here on Long Island. The worst of the snow will be more south in NJ and further south. For once New England is not going to be getting socked as it should go out to sea instead of up north. My poor bulbs don't need a coating of snow.

Our only 'Katarine Hodgkin' reticulata in bloom. I hope that the ones planted last fall will bloom also. the old one is next to rock marker so probably absorb heat. Daffodill foliage next to our rock wall has made an appearance.

The snow never did arrive. Hurray! A nice bright sunny day here. It is supposed to get warmer each day this week so that by Easter it is supposed to be over 50 degrees. I hope this means spring has finially arrived and that our horrid March winter weather is over.
