Who else has tried this?

Luv mine, so far. I have no clue as to how long it will last, but it's surely a delight at present! I started with one 25' section, and can literally carry it rolled up on just my pinkie finger!

Before I buy a bunch more...does anyone have any longevity info to share?

Just that it will last longer if you drain it every time after use. I got one as well, but it seems to leak at the nozzle connection and I'm pretty sure it's the hose because I had the nozzle on another hose and it didn't leak.

I ordered online because I couldn't find in the store and sure enough, as soon as it came we went shopping and there were all over the place!

But I like it otherwise. Very easy to carry around and store.

Oh, I hope more people will chime in on this! I've been intrigued by those hoses, but it seems like most of that stuff is just junk.

Although, along those same lines ("As Seen on TV" that is), I bought a can of that Flex-Seal stuff and it's just great for sealing pin-hole leaks in my 1020 trays. I've tried several different things to stop those little leaks, and that stuff is the best so far.

I bought something like the expandable hose at Walmart last week. Scruches up to about 100x less than size of normal 50 foot hose. As our weather has been too cold I have been unable to test it. I am hoping it works and keeps the hose out from under my feet as I am not so good about keeping it wound up. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

I will keep you posted. Is that what you were talking about?

That sounds like the same thing, because I know Walmart has started carrying a lot of the stuff they advertise on TV. I may just go ahead and pick one up. Be nice to have a lightweight extension to carry around. Are they very expensive?

I picked mine up at the hardware store. It cost quite a bit less than my last rubber hose. I care so little about that awful thing that I didn't even attempt to put it away last winter. It needs to be in a "forever" location...it's just that impossible to move around.

Yes, Marilyn. That sounds like it. So far I've only hooked mine up a few times...just to try it. The rain barrels here are presently full, so I don't need it yet.

Thanks, Arlene! Thumbs up

I buy the 25 ft rubber hoses and use quick connectors to hook them together as needed. Works out pretty well, because that way you're not always dragging around a 50 ft hose, and the connectors sort of swivel too, so it doesn't get so twisted. AND I put in in-line shutoffs so I don't have to run back to the faucet to turn it off. But the last one I bought was NOT as good as the previous ones, even though it was supposed to be the same model and brand. Darn thing kinks! Anyway, I've been curious about those expandable hoses. Think I'll ask DH to pick one up when he goes to town.

I think it was about 10.00 but I really cannot remember. Just that it was cheap enough that if it worked it worked OK, if not OK

If they're cheap enough, I'll still give one a try. But yeah, those reviews really make them sound like they stink! Hilarious!

I paid $20, both online (plus shipping) and in the store, but I got the 50 ft. That's all they had at our Wal-Mart/Home Depot.

So far, other than that annoying leaking, I really like mine. I have to try the other one, maybe it's just one that's bad. In that case I can take it back. Whistling

Anymore it's so hard to find any hoses, nozzles, connectors that don't fail rather quickly. We always plan on buying new every year. We do have one heavy duty contractor hose and it's really nice, but it is HEAVY and I believe it's 100 ft., so really heavy. We got it when we had a community garden and when the garden fizzled, we kept it.

Very few good reviews. Leaking and as time goes by they do not shrink back as much as when new. We set up one on one of the garden tables at work this week and will have to see how long it last.

Weather still hasn't been good enough to hook mine up. I am hoping that in a week or so I can try it out.

I have tried the quick connect adapters and they all leaked all over the place. I hate dragging those heavy hoses

around. If this works I can put up with a few small leaks. I will post when I know more.

>> I care so little about that awful thing that I didn't even attempt to put it away last winter. It needs to be in a "forever" location...it's just that impossible to move around.

That's what I do with irrigation "mainline" tubing. I run it from a spigot all the way around the house, with some branches, then leave it in place.

I put a male hose thread fitting on every dead end. I spliced in a Tee with male hose threads fairly near each bed, then run very short lengths of garden hose from the Tees.

>> AND I put in in-line shutoffs so I don't have to run back to the faucet to turn it off.

Usually when I go from the irrigation mainline to hose threads, I do it with a "Y" that has two shut-off valves. That gives me local control for each zone. (I'm still experimenting with some sprayers, some dripline, and some spot-watering by hand.)

Great article, Rick. I tip my hat to you.

I'm just perennially confused in that section of the store...even a kit seems way over my head. Whistling One day...maybe.
