Well, every time I go out there I hope and pray that the Lord will protect me from the west nile virus, because I get stung a lot.
I wear long pants, shoes and socks, but I refuse to wear long sleeves and high necks.
I spray my arms with Off and the other day I tried to put some on my face and neck with a cotton ball.
So I had an allergic reaction to the Off which was not severe, but now I can only protect my arms.

My question is, do you use a spray on your face and neck? and if so which? Confused

I've got Off! with Deet to spray on my clothes and currently have a spray that says Liquid Net the ultimate insect repellent for my skin. I also recently bought a Bug Baffler outfit. I don't wear if it's extra hot, but it comes in handy other times! I use the pants the most because I like shorts. I don't really like to use the part that goes over my head.

Interesting netting...good solution for shorts. I spread cedarcide around the pathways and entry to keep the mosquitos away from coming in the house with the dogs.I also put a large lemon verbena near the door that I rub. So far have had less mosquitoes coming in.

Jo, I put Off on my face and I got an allergic reaction which sent me to the dermatologist a few years back so I'm very careful of putting Off on my face so I did buy the Bug Baffler (top) but not liking it too much. I feel like I can't see as well through the netting so I haven't used it as much.
I still use Off on my face and neck but being very careful spraying it on my palms and patting it on my face.

I've got an idea that I am going to test tonight. Last year I bought one of those lanterns that are supposed to keep the skeeters away for X number of feet ...I've thrown the packaging away ... and I am going to put it on a small table in the area where I plan to work tonight to see if it will protect me enough so that I can weed when it's cooler. I remember that the packaging said it would protect enough area to make the patio bug free, but I wasn't out there much last year for some health reasons, so I haven't really found out if it works. Tonight's the test.

Last night I sprayed some Off on a couple of sheets and put one on the patio table and one on the bench and came in with no bites. That's a major success for me ! I'm worried about West Nile disease, too.

Smiles,
Lyn

Great idea on the sheets. I know someone who puts those burning repellant coils in a lantern and says it works well. I guess it works if you plan to stay in one area. I seem to forget to carry it around with me

I've got enough weeds in some spots in the garden, I can stay put for a while Big Grin , but, if it works, I'll probably make sure I have enough room on that table to put a battery operated light on it so that I can keep working. If I run out of light, I will remember to move the table.

Smiles,
Lyn

American Beautyberry is supposed to repel mosquitos. I might need to experiment a little.

Anna, here's my contribution! I bought a screen house ($30.) that fits over an umbrella so Mr. Smokey could slip out the game room door and not get eaten up by mosquitoes. You'd have thought I'd asked him to wear a dress! Won't have anything to do with it. I love it, though. I can spray right through the thin screen and there are no mosquitoes. The zipper is supposed to face toward the house, but I put it back up just for you and wouldn't ask for help turning everything around. The ring around the bottom is filled with water, so it stays in the shape you choose.

I'm taking it to the lake where it'll be appreciated.

That's cool, Sandi! We have a new yard umbrella, so maybe that's a possibility for sitting outdoors without being covered with skeeters! I may have to do a bit more sitting for a while...my left leg started hurting pretty bad and it doesn't look like this is going away, so will be at the doctor's tomorrow to see what's wrong!

Oh Linda, this getting old is the pits! DH had to have a steroid shot last week for leg pain. It sure did the trick, tho. Hope you can get some relief.

I got the screen at Bed, Bath, & Beyond. Had I remembered i had a coupon, it would have been $5. less. I saw it on another site, then looked for it everywhere. Finally found the last one here way south. I love it. I think it'll be great in fall when it's cooler, too.

I hate all that pain and walking like a cripple. A cure would be nice! DH said I could use his electric chair, but that's not a solution!

Maybe a month ago, Anna. Go online and look for one. Check out the B,B,&B website. The netting actually covers more ground, but I put it up on the patio to show you what it looked like, so I made it more of a square to fit that space. Water in the base keeps it firmly on the patio or grass so no slither-kidees can get in! I give it a couple of puffs of Cutter spray and there's no mosquitoes to bother with.

No cure in sight on the leg so far. Just plain NSAID's and I'm trying to keep it elevated or at least stay off it some. Very frustrating!
