Hello, I'm glad rock gardens has a dedication place, I was hunting in several different areas for planning pictures. It's the start of winter but the shorter days find me very busy with layout and diagrams on upcoming planting time. Here in the mid south, we get in the garden in just two months.
I'm looking forward to some pictures myself! I'm interested in rock gardens but have never gotten really far into it. So I'll be lurking on the threads here.
Hi all, I just noticed the rock garden forum!
I looking forward to reading everyone's posts in preparation of building my own (although most probably next year rather than this)
It really depends whether you want a "garden with rocks" (or rockery, to use the British term), or a classic rock garden. In the latter, it is really soil conditions (drainage and lean, mineral soil ), rather than the presence of rocks, that allows what are thought of as "rock garden" species to grow and maintain their forms... lots more about this in the other threads here.
No, not mutually exclusive, but not actually necessary, as you well know!
Edit: Oops, please forgive the "as you well know"! I thought this was Rick pulling my leg, and didn't twig onto the forumist name until this morning when I reread it!
