I would like to send well wishes to our friends in the Northeast as this Nor'easter/Blizzard pushes through tonight. They are expecting between 12 and 18 inches of snow for parts of New York and New Jersey and other parts in the northeast. Some places in New York will wake up to -5° and in Maine -23°!

Nice and toasty warm inside and no thoughts of going outside at all...until Sunday or Monday when it will be 50 degrees.

Safe traveling to all, if any travel is mandatory. The famed Long Island Expressway will be closed tonight to insure that plows can do the job without stranded cars and shivering motorists.

It's a two dog night for many in the nation but, alas, we have only one, Smitty, and he's not allowed on the bed.

I would not allow it either, especially a long haired dog. That is too much work for me, hair everywhere!LOL.
I am glad to hear you are staying in and I did hear about the major or somebody closing certain roads so they would not have a repeat of last time with people getting stranded and then more people have to come out to rescue them and endanger their own lives as well.
We are very cold and windy right now but no ice that I can see. It seems that it stopped raining just in time and I saw a little snow to the north of me but nothing here. Yippee!

Our irrigation guys came with their truck, plows and shovels so we're all cleared and the roads have been plowed. I'm happy to be inside and warm.

It's fun to see the difference in the garden from last Saturday, when I did the mulching, to this morning.

6 degrees and windy, glade to be back inside. The clean up was no fun at all with the snow blowing back in your face while you are trying to do it.

Amazing Pirl! Great pic. Thumbs up

@NJBob, The wind was horrible @ 25° I can't imagine being out when it is single digits. I thought I was going to die today and it will be colder tomorrow but I think the winds have died down now so I actually have hope.
Glad you are inside and warm now!

That is horrible! I saw on weather.com that some states up north will get down to -55° plus get snow. I am not supposed to get snow and I have no storm warning just cold, cold air.
The high for Tuesday is 25. the low will be 15 and I do not ever recall it getting down below 20°. I checked the Almanac and a record low of 13 was set back in 1885. So this is the coldest it has been in 120 years. LOL.

It teaches all of us that we should be grateful to have heated homes, so many don't have that luxury. I'm sure the shelters will be packed tonight and for the next few nights.

They will hunker down all three days. They do not allow anyone on the streets if it is 32 or below. Our city is good about that and the churches are wonderful for taking turns letting people sleep on the floor.
I work down town and I see the homeless people often and we are a small town and a poor town but the churches here would put the nation to shame with all they do. Bless their Lovey dubby .

@jvdubb, Those are some pretty cold temps! Are you in Michigan?? What is your zipcode I will add you to my weather buddies on Weather.com I have a lot of people on here as weather buddies so I can see how everyone is doing. I have @NJBob on there but I just made up a zip code for him. LOL. You can email it if you like but do not email @RickCorey. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

I saw a lady on the Daylily Forum from Michigan (weather buddy) she is already getting Blizzard conditions. There is another lady who lives in Wisconsin and she is getting down to -22°! (weather buddy)..Yikes how can people Breath or talk, wouldn't your lips freeze together? and then what do you do..... Confused

Our joyful high for today was 63° and we will drop to 50 by midnight and that is the high for tomorrow, it is at midnight because after that it will be straight down tomorrow to 15°. Then the high for Tuesday is 23! Yikes, there go my sinuses. Blinking

Stop laughing yawl, 15 is extremely cold for us! Very close to the record low set back in 1884, in-case you were thinking this weather pattern is something new. I was certain it has never been this cold before...I was wrong! LOL.

The storm was pretty much what we always get a couple times every winter in my area. I was out working in it for 22 hours straight plowing and shoveling. Just break out the Carhartt winter clothes and a good pair of Chippewa boots and go to work. This is New England and that's how we roll.

I gotta say this though caused it ticked me off pretty bad...

When weather like this moves in, BRING YOUR DAMN PETS INSIDE! I have this complete 'dickhead' (pardon the expression, but nothing else quite sums it up for this guy) of a neighbor that had his dog outside chained up for hours during some of the worst cold that came in with the snow. I knocked on his door and explained to him that if I ever saw that again the dog would be mine and I would chain him up in the yard. I can be a pretty convincing fellow in situations like this and he seemed to understand how much I was not joking.

WE can dress correctly for just about any weather out there...but our animals absolutely depend on us to do right by them and anyone that is not willing to do so deserves no better treatment than that which they gave their pets.

Very good point @robertduval14!! I do not mean to laugh but you told him off real good!! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

I am a firm believer that if you are going to have pets you need to take care of them year round and you need to think ahead about what you will do when it is really hot or really cold, etc. Thankfully, I have only had to call PETA one time. I do not approve of everything PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) does or believes but when I pick up a phone and complain about someone, they do show up at their door.

My DH says PETA stands for 'People Eating Tasty Animals'. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Our morning started with a very mild 64° and will be dropping straight down till it gets to 15 with a wind chill of zero or below. Very unusual for this area. Weather.com changed us to 14° for tonight and the record low (1884) is 13. This is the coldest it has been for 120 years!! Here is a sweet little advisory from a local tv station. Notice at the bottom they are reminding us to wear our hat and gloves. LOL.

* Areas affected: southeast and south central Virginia and
northeast North Carolina.

* Hazards: dangerously low wind chills.

* Wind chill values: zero to 5 below zero due to temperatures
between 10 and 15 degrees above zero combined with west winds at
15 to 25 mph with gusts to 30 mph.

* Timing: late tonight and Tuesday morning.

* Impacts: the cold temperatures may result in frozen water
pipes and will be a danger to exposed skin.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Chill Advisory means that very cold air and strong winds
will combine to generate low wind chills. This will result in
frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken.
If you must venture outdoors... make sure you wear a hat and
gloves.
