Imagine my surprise today, as I took stroll around the garden, and found some of the crocuses are blooming. We've had crazy cold weather, including freezing rain, sleet, and snow for 36 hours last week.

Parts of my garden are still under ice, but in one if my back beds, and in the front garden under the Kwanzan cherries I found some blooms, there's hope for spring, finally!

We have warm weather coming this week, however starting on Sunday, we'll have nights below freezing again.

What a cheering sight. This means mine will be showing soon as the snow goes.
Thanks for the thread.

Thanks for posting your lovely Crocuses, Annette. They inspired me to take a gander around my garden today.

Spring is springing all over the place here.

tete a tete with tulips in the middle - looks like they won't bloom at the same time this year. I planted them in an metal lampshade and they survived total neglect over the summer till now

The tulips and daffodils are also about to bloom. The first daffs to bloom here will be Ice King in the back bed, and tulip Double Time in the front bed is putting up buds. We've had some warm weather this week, so everything is really taking off.

The rest of them should come up nicely. They're probably waiting for warmer weather. I noticed my Tete a Tete are blooming in a few areas.

The bulbs are really taking off here, and have grown quite well this week, thanks to our warmer daytime temps. They're in big trouble, the cold weather is coming back next week with several nights in the 20's. It will have to be survival if the fittest.

These are supposed to be Ice King, but look more like Ice Follies. I'm just happy to finally be seeing some blooms here and there.

Your're welcome Jo Ann, it's iris reticulata Gordon, the crocus are Sieberi Tricolor, and Narcissus Ice King/ Ice Follies, and Tete-a-Tete.

I planted 100 of these crocus in 2010, most if them have been dug up and eaten by the critters. Same for the reticulata irises, another of which was Cantab, that I don't even see blooming any more. Crying

The critters have also started digging up my giant mix crocus that I planted last fall. I ground up some red pepper flakes, and sprinkled it in the area where they are most active. I noticed a few more bulbs being dug up after that, but they weren't eaten, and left on the grass. I guess my friends don't like spicy foods Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Squirrels are a problem here too. I dont mind the digging of crocus as long as they replant. I have tried the screen covers of newly planted bulbs and Cayenne pepper.that works but sometimes there are too many bulbs to treat.
