I got this from my daughter two years ago, it is not my favorite color, but being it is my first non cemetery bearded Iris of the year, it looks beautiful to me. Any possibility of putting a name on it, other than "from my daughters house"? We just had almost three inches of rain last night and this morning, so it is pretty beat up looking.

crowrita1,
Thank you ever so much, I could have spent hours looking though all those Iris pictures and still never have found that, to me it is a perfect match. So I am making a tag for it. I tip my hat to you.

Seedfork, do me a favor, and put a question mark after the name on that tag! I'm" pretty sure" that what you have IS Indian Chief, but, to be real sure, I would like to see some other pics of your NOID ( a "fresh "flower, and maybe several different angles), THEN I'd like to see it grown, next to a CONFIRMED Indian Chief, and THEN ,if everything matched up...bloom time, height, aroma, etc. , and I was still "happy" with the similarity....I'd say "It's Indian Chief" ! Seriously, if and when you "share" this iris, PLEASE say "I THINK it's Indian Chief". There are lots of iris "identified" by a picture....that are identified wrong ! So many ,are so similar, it's a real crap-shoot to pick a name from just a picture ,and have it be correct. Anyway, it's a darn nice iris !....Arlyn

Ok, I don't mind a question mark at all. Thanks again. I can take plenty more photos when I get fresh flowers, probably won't be able to grow it next to a confirmed 'Indian Chief', height I can measure, I not thought about aroma.

I have more new blooms after the 5 inches of rain we had. Maybe these will help to determine if the Iris is 'Indian Chief'. I don't have a very good nose for scents, but I could put my nose right in the bloom and detect a faint scent, I could not describe that scent however.

That is just so beautiful -- I'm seriously considering allocating a small amount of space to a couple of heritage Irises. Indian Chief should certainly be among them. Lovey dubby

Heritage irises are the tough ones Mary Ann. I don't think you can stop them from growing and blooming.

If you decide to take the plunge, MaryAnn....I know where you could probably find some! Bonnie is correct! Those old timers that are still with us are here because of a form of "natural selection"....they have stood up to borers, soft rot, and leafspot...they seem to thrive on neglect, bloom their hearts out despite too much shade, too much water, and too many weeds! What they lack in frills and lace, they make up for with a simple elegance and a tailored form... I tip my hat to you. ...Arlyn

Arlyn -- don't forget -- I already have a few of them. Smiling

If I can get my act together in that regard, would you have a spare rhizome of Indian Chief?

Sheridragonfly,
Hi back to you. How about posting pics of some of those Iris when they bloom, post pics of the yellow one in the ID forum and maybe you can get a name for it also.
