A general chat thread. I couldn't find one to post on so I started this. Hope other people chime in!

Today I finished moving my ditch lilies to somewhere they can stand up straight and I won't mind them being tall.

Also moved my Kwanso since someone told me it's derived from the ditchlilies. Don't want its roots in the bed I had put it in. I put it on either side of my Black Knight buddleia.

Moved more buttercups but not done yet. I tried to smother them last year with newspaper only to learn that they need CARDBOARD to get smothered. Don't want a hip high plant where they were. want ankle high stuff there.

I also took the 2nd 4x4x4 compost pile apart - to be dug out for the fluffy soil on the bottom and refilled later with the tree that fell last year and the Rose of Sharon I cleared from the fence line.

Didn't get to the front yard at all. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow, it's a sit down and weed chore, not a bend and lift one. I'm trying to eradicate the potentilla 'Nana' that I put there thinking it would make a nice tidy "puddle" - it took over EVERYTHING!!

What did YOU do outside today?

Excellent thread. I really didn't do anything about my perennials, I just worked on my veggie bed. Now I just need to put fertilizer on those tomato beds before planting.

It was so nice out today, in fact it is still beautiful out but I am too poofed to do any more. Hungry already, thinking about what to have for dinner.

My tulips have started blooming!

Welcome!

I was the opposite - no veggie work today.

No tulips even budding yet, but lots of leaves on them and on the daffodils.
Before I went out there today, I looked over my Brent & Becky's catalog.
I need to fill in SO MANY timing gaps.
Never enough $$$ to get all I want.
Soon I'll sort the ones I marked by
1) price per bulb
2) bloom time
3) color.

YOUR bulbs are absolutely fantastic!
I found the golf balls today, to mark where I'll plant new bulbs this fall. And I WILLLLLL plant new bulbs this fall!

I don't know what I will do this fall. Not a lot because I am really, really tired of planting bulbs.

My perennial beds are all cleaned from my days off last week and help from my mom!

Today I did too much! I went over to a neighbor's to harvest rocks. I'm going to use them to make a new raised bed. I moved five or six wheel barrel loads. Then I piled up the ones I will go back for later.....when I can walk again!

Welcome!

Oh god. I harvested rocks from a neighbor myself, a couple of years ago. Walked them from behind his house, across the back yard of the house between us, and lifted them over the 4' fence. MAN that hurt.

It's progress though!

One of our neighbors across the cul de sac had a stack of concrete double blocks to give away. We used a carrier like you would move a refrigerator with except it weighed as much as the brick. We must have made 10 trips across the cul de sac, across our front lawn and into the back lawn (stupid gizmo would sink into the lawn making it twice as hard). But we got a great base for a raised bed for free.

Oh you have no idea. There are so many more there. They want me to remove all of them so they can take back the yard to lawn eventually. But i only need so many and of a certain size. I can't move all of them out

The whole thing is depressing. The wife died a few years ago. She had extensive, spectacular gardens. The husband and son don't garden. One year some neighbors went over and cleaned up and mulched the front. But it went back to jungle. Last year I went over with another neighbor and we removed many plants through out the summer. There are still spectacular shrubs over there and lots of plants. But ivy, grapevines, wild raspberries, leaves, and general debris have taken over. It is really depressing.

Started removing all the deadwood from the roses (shrub roses @90% Rolling my eyes. ) and trimming back the ornamental grasses. Roses and fine-needled evergreens took last winter really hard, but most of the other stuff that I was really concerned about did just fine. ALL of my polemonium made it, which is absolutely amazing! I've never had any luck with them before now. Even the seed baby left to overwinter in a container is just fine. Hurray!
The rest of the time I've been working in the seedling area... potting up babies. Lovey dubby

I'm tired! Cleared out an area on the Northeast side of my greenhouse for my shade plants and decided how to lay it out .. repotted two Theobromas into larger pots - keeping my fingers crossed that one of them might bloom this year - along with a Podranea that got a bigger pot. Potted up 44 newly germinated plants .. once they start getting true leaves they'll go in the ground. Began to unload the greenhouses, a slow process since I groom and repot if necessary .. everything looks so pathetic at this point! Gave everyone in the back yard and the main greenhouse their first feeding of the season .. thank goodness for Hozon! Cleared out 3 large containers which have my Passiflora in it of leaves, pine needles and weeds and was thrilled to see them starting to come up! Tho Lady Margaret has yet to make an appearance.

Whew! I have come to the conclusion I have way too many plants and desperately need to downsize .. either that or get a third greenhouse! Thankfully the North Charleston Plant Swap is in a couple of weeks so I'll be able to get rid of a lot of the excess.

The plan for today was to get the raised beds for my daylilies (I have ordered) built. My husband did get most of that done. I added a small two layer one (today Shrug! ) to go around a red bud tree that he also did tho he doesn't have a lot of patience for flowers Glare . I cleaned out the flower beds around the deck.

Found a hosta that is dead in the middle. Posted about it on the hosta forum. Got some suggestions and am moving it tomorrow. Was planing on moving about four of them into the box that we did today around the red bud. Went to Lowes and bought top soil and quick start.

Cleared the grass then filled the box around the red bud (didn't buy enough top soil) Grumbling but tomorrow is Sunday and the sale at Menards for the landscaping tembers will be over so, ran back to Menards to buy more top soil and 20 more landscape tembers (just in case) I decide I need more raised beds Big Grin They were on sale for $.99 each, what can I say...

Getting them that cheep, I was able to talk hubby into a couple of other small projects Whistling All in all I feel like it was a productive day! It was really nice out side and after the horrible long winter it was heaven hard work or not. Thumbs up
