The problem is that when you are young your life it is ruined by your parents. When you are older it is ruined by your children.

Nice, but I don't think that's a Black Swallowtail. They have a distinct black dot within the orange cell at the base of their hind wings. You have either a Spicebush, or depending on the size, I might even lean toward a female dark-form Eastern Tiger Swallowtail.

I tip my hat to you. Thank you mellielong for the clarification. I tried to change it but I can't edit the title.

Oh, that's okay. It's funny, Mom has this program that rotates nature pictures as her background on the computer. But she can also pull them up one by one. So yesterday she says, "This is my favorite." And it's a picture of a Black Swallowtail on Echinacea. And I explained how to look for the black dot in the center of the red/orange dot to be sure because, like luggage at the airport, many butterflies look alike! So when I saw your post I quizzed her on it and she remembered! She still kind of sucks at identifying butterflies, though. Hilarious! Like today when she made me come running only to have it vanish by the time I got outside. Dad is much better at identifying but I think since he's a hunter he's got better eyes for nature (and anyone who can shoot a duck out of the sky and know what kind it is would have to be pretty good at identifying things, in my opinion).
