@Dave, Should we be starting threads on our own gesneriads interests so we do no have to waste time going through all the different threads to find something we are into? There are a lot of new people moved to cubits with their streptocarpus. I feel sure they would pop in since some are just beginners as well as many are hard core professional strep growers. So full of information it is amazing, but some of their discussion is way beyond my beginner status. This forum will be a great place for those of us who dabble in some gesneriads to share and learn. Would anyone be annoyed if I started a strep and sinningia thread?

The AV and other gesneriads thread in the Houseplant forum is also good, but again, if you are into just AVs it is time consuming to try and find answers to others. I do not want to clutter your forums. Please tell me what you prefer.

Do we want an off-topic chatty thread, and a foliage/plant/bloom of the day thread to get things rolling, perhaps?

This is where my post on the tropical forum with Eucodonias and Achimenes should have gone, but it wasn't here when I did those posts Smiling . Anyone have any experience with Seemannias?

Donald, I grow one Seemannia, S. lindeniana. Well, I suspect that Gloxinia sylvatica 'Bolivian Sunset' is now a Seemannia as well, so I have two. I grow the lindeniana in a terrarium, and the sylvatica on my kitchen windowsill on a pebble tray.

@JB: You could gently urge cubits folks to come take a look at ATP too if they aren't already active members. Green Grin!

@Plantladylin I will certainly make them aware of the new forum, but I want to first check and see if the "leader" is a member. He is one really nice person and for some reason I thought he was already a member. I thought they chose Cubits so they could more or less spread out with all their pictures and forums and things. I have noticed there is not too much activity just now but then we are all very busy and time is one thing we are running short of. I will do what I can but I think an invitation from our Dave to their Dave would be more affective.

I contacted Dave G regarding visiting my strep thread and he said he will pop in. He has a magnificent Cubits on Streptocarpus and he is so willing to share, I feel if he stops by the strep thread he will be able to answer questions people may not feel comfortable asking on the cubits thread. He is so very cooperative i would like to see the strep people on ATP and Cubits sharing for the benefit of all of us. I can not see a reason for any competition....we are all here to learn and better our plants and gardens.

Hi everyone, JB is absolutely correct. There is no competition! I host and belong to several strep forums and Facebook groups. The more information shared, the better we all grow these beautiful plants which in the end attracts more people to this wonderful hobby.

I, myself am a amateur grower. I have been growing streps for 6 years and by no means an expert. However, there are many far more knowledgeable people on our Cubits forum.
Dale Martens, Nancy Braun and Betty Cessna are very talented hybridizers. We have others as well but I do not know their last names. Dale also writes articles for Gesneriads the publication of the Gesneriad society. She is the expert and the most knowledgeable grower of Streptocarpus I know.

Everyone on the Cubits site will answer questions. Yes, JB, we do go thru quiet spells but do not be afraid to post. I normally check the site daily. If you really need an answer you can always c-mail me, strepbystrep.

You can also find me on Facebook. The group there is Strepbystrep. Just type it in the search box. I also have 3 pages on Facebook; Streptocarpus the American Way which is devoted to American bred streps only, Why You Should Love Streptocarpus which I post information on Streptocarpus and Totally Wendy's which highlights only hybrids made by Wendy DeLorme-Knapp a hybridizer from Rochester, NY.

I have written several articles about streps and hybridizers which you can find in the articles section of http://cubits.org/Strepbystrep.

Welcome! and thanks for coming aboard. I know from experience that you are not only willing to share your information, but you do it in such a way we can all understand what you are saying. (me especially).

The articles are great and I have made file to keep them in just in case the old PC goes dead. I will be sure to look for your FB pages. I think I saw the one. The problem is, the pictures posted make me want more streps and that gets to be a problem. They are like you say, potato chips, eat one and you must eat the whole bag. Thanks again. See you soon.
