I can identify with your experience with the flowering plum.

While doing some vigorous weeding on a hot, humid day, I used my shirt-tail to wipe the sweat off my face and ...
blood everywhere. Having no clue where the blood was coming from I quickly ran to find a mirror. Yep, blood pouring down the center of my face. Like you I worried if any of the neighbors had been looking.

Had gotten jabbed in the center of my forehead by one of the sharp Yucca points and, well, let's just say I now give them a wide berth when I walk in that part of the garden.

That is SO FUNNY! I tell ya, people have this image of us gardeners like the grand English ladies, strolling the garden with a basket on the arm, pearls around the neck, in sensible shoes. HA. It's like an elite military operation around here... Khakis, and armed to the teeth. I guess I tend to throw myself, sometimes literally, into my work. Once, when I was having a routine medical checkup the doctor got this real serious and compassionate look on his face and asked me if there was anything I needed to talk about. I could not figure out what he meant...just sat there staring at him with a stupid look on my face. Then he said, very gently, "I noticed a lot of bruises...." *LMAO* He thought my husband beat me! I had to tell him, no, I am an enthusiastic gardener...this is from dropping the shovel on my foot, this is where the wheelbarrow handle sprang back and hit me in the arm, this is where I knocked my head on a rake... Poor man. To this day he eyes my husband with suspicioun.
I am not "country" I am "landed gentry."
