An invasion of about fifty around the porch light, next night about ten, then none since. I fear for my Adenium seed pods.

Some sort of true bug, probably feeds on plant juices but shouldn't be anything to worry about.

Sucked the juices out of developing Adenium seed pods. Absolutely destructive in the worst way! I am trying to begin selling seeds. One pod when ripe had no good seeds.

I took it they were just congregating around lights and not actually on your plants, I see now why your concerned. my area I see these kinds of bugs near lights but never actually on my plants.

Ok so it's some sort of seed bug than, there is so many that googling still hasn't matched yours exactly.

It does sound like some kind of seed bug to me too. I'm guessing that is a full grown one in your picture. They can look so different in the stages of their life cycle from nymphs to adult.

On another thought, since you said "bright orange", I'm going to throw Milkweed Bug in the ring. Milkweed bugs are very destructive and known to destroy undeveloped seed pods, amoung other things!!!

I have looked, but I haven't found one matching. There are many which aren't featured on bugguide, but it does look to be a seed bug in the family Lygaeidae.

Note it has an orange head and scutellum with dark legs, the closest I have found is genus Ochrimnus ..

Thanks! That one is very similar. I will have to catch some if I see them again, I've moved, and get better photos.
