I guess we should get away frrom posting new material in the welcome thread and move to separate topics under Tropical

To start here are some plants that grow in places other then tropical. The right side of my entry way is crammed with various such stuff including lots of caladiums and Ipomoea batatas or sweet potato vines in white and red

The Florida forums seem to be pretty much dead on this site. Not like the old DG where one had a hard time keeping up with all the chit-chat. I guess there just aren't that many people on this site yet.

Anybody ever figure out a way to keep chewing animals (grasshoppers I guess) away from crinums? Mine are being chewed to bits but I don't see anything that's doing the damage.

That would work fine of they can be found. I see nothing just eaten up leaves. They must come out at night to chow down.

Here is Hibiscus schizopetalus aka "Japanese Lantern" hibiscus. Why is this coming out so small?

When I type, it's in a tiny font and then when it posts, it looks normal. I haven't even opened the wine yet tonight.

same problem earlier here today Jim. Now the font is back to normal again. I tried using the blog and had no option to increase the font size from tiny to readable. I guess Dave is still working on this system.

That is a fantastic flower ...I have never seen anything like it.

I do not suppose it could be grown in a pot like some other Hibiscus?

Love that Hibiscus, Jim! I gave up on them when we got Giant Whitefly. Too labor intensive to keep them looking good.

Cinda, I don't know how it would do in a pot. Google it, find a seller and ask them. I can tell you that in the ground in Florida, it gets 10 feet high and 6 feet wide. I'm sure a pot would tame the growth

While the Florida gardeners do put me to shame, I must admit my Tropicanna Canna is looking good today. I really like the Florida Beauty caladiums I special ordered from caladiums4less

Fred,
Perhaps if more people like yourself would show an interest on the forum it might bring others out from lurking. If no one is willing to post, there won't be anything to read.

I tried Jan, no response from anybody.
It's like they all took their plants and went home.

Good point, Fred. I saw one on a picnic table at church the other day that looked big enough to ride.
