This is kind of fun. I added a section to everyone's profile today that showcases the areas of the custom databases that you tend to contribute the most to.

Check it out on mine:

http://garden.org/users/profil...

Scroll down to below the database contributions area and you'll see it. I was surprised to see Roses were my most contributed area.

But then look at @zuzu and you'll see she contributes to the roses area 20 times more than the next area down her list. Unsurprisingly, @KentPfeiffer is a champion of irises.

Check your own profile to see where your own numbers stand. The numbers count up images, comments, and databox proposals, and only custom databases are counted for the purposes of this one area. So a contribution made to a plant that's not in a custom database doesn't get checked.

Pretty neat.

Sounds good, but nothing appears on my profile. Perhaps I misunderstand what a contribution is?

Deb, in your case I think it's not showing because you're kind of all over the database (which is great!) It only shows up if your contributions are heavily concentrated in specific areas of the database.

That's not the first time I've been called 'all over the place' - good to be consistent I guess! Makes sense, though, I'm not passionate about any one type of plant so I'll just keep randomly adding information. I love how the database keeps growing, and the site keeps evolving.

My contribution lists contributing to only about 1400 daffodils but the reality is it's probably over 10000. Does the number only reflect contributions to db that were bare (w/o any data provided) before? I usually add 10 to 20 db entries to every daffodil I encounter (there is usually only a couple of boxes already filled in each entry (like breeder, year of registration and colors).

I don't think data proposals are included, Jack. Most of my figures seem to be the sum of photos + comments, and in some cases the figure is even lower than the number of photos I've contributed.

Right, for this specific area it's only looking at images and comments. There's a technical limitation that caused me to only look at those aspects.

In case anyone is interested, I've figured out why the contribution figure is sometimes lower than the number of images contributed. Images and comments added to a parent page aren't included in the totals.

That is funny @Weedwhacker. That was the first thing that I noticed as well. Smiling But I guess we better not give him a bad time about it . . . I don't know how he get's done as much as he does.

And the stats are fun, @Dave. Thank you for doing that.
