I've got several NOID garden peonies. Please help me ID at least some of them.

Here is the first one. Found neglected in the local garden centre. Planted in the summer 2012. Although planted it in the coldest spot in my garden (between mine and neighbour's house), with very little sun (perhaps an hour late afternoon,) the peony grows and blooms. These are pictures from the last year.

Love these single flowers that starts with light pink blush. Stems are rather tall. By the way, it sets real seeds.

I am thinking White Wings or Crinkled White? What are your thoughts? Your help will be highly appreciated.

I don't think it is full enough to be Krinkled White. Here is a picture of mine...

According to the same source: "Single white flowers, closing at night to keep them perfect in the early days, are held on well-branched upright stems. Thick mid green leaves. Scented. Late season."

I remember that the flowers of my NOID close at night, because I like plants that close flowers and/or leafs at night.

Does your Krinkled White close at night? I have more space beside my white NOID and I would like to add one more white peony that can grow at this spot; that is, that can tolerate shade.

@Ticker, your Krinkled White is really pretty. Do you think that it might tolerate shade?

They say White Wings can tolerate shade. My white NOID is facing North and receives perhaps an hour late afternoon sun. It receives lots of bright light all day long though.

Another neighbour of mine has a double white garden NOID peony that hardly receives any sun. The plant grows among the house foundation, spruce tree and magnolia. However, year after year it produces huge, huge white flowers. I think the flowers start with a hint of green and turn to cream. If I had known the type, I would buy it. I know that it is bought in a local garden centre, so it has to be something relatively common, perhaps Duchess of Nemours.

It will be interesting to find out the parents of these peonies that can thrive in shade. I’ll try to use garden peonies more like “fillers” and groundcover, so I am looking for types that can look naturalized and take some shade.

Hmmmm, does my Krinkled White bloom in the shade? Most all of my peonies are in full sun for at least four to five hours of the day. Then some will be in various degrees of shade for the rest of the day. I don't have any completely in the shade and I don't have any on the north side of the house. So I can't help you there. Sorry.

I was just passing by my neighbour’s house when she was rearranging her front yard and was ready to toss this peony. I took the poor peony, dug a hole and planted it. This was all happening last June. Surprisingly the peony kept the leaves and several buds although it has been transplanted in the middle of the growing season.

It is light, light pink, fading to almost white with a potential for carmine-streaking.

The only negative that I can say is that the flowers cannot tolerate rain. They get disfigured. I don’t have lots of experience with garden peonies, so if you know how to prevent those ugly yellowish-brownish spots caused by rain, please let me know.

It maybe a Shirley Temple? It is just a guess as there are so many pink blush out there.

In post 623, the external surface of the buds and the blooms look like Sarah Bernhardt to me. My Shirley Temple has white buds and blooms, with no pink streaking on either.

Check out Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt. She's a really pretty soft pink. :)

Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt is really pretty. I wish I have it, but the bud looks different and Mrs Roosevelt does not have carmine streaks.

I googled Shirly Temple and found something interesting; there are pictures of ST with almost white buds and also pictures with pink buds like mine.

Sarah Bernards might be too pink. Anyway, several days ago I bought bear root SB, potted it and she already has a bud. The pot is still inside, but I'll bring her out in a couple of days. Hope I'll see at least one flower this year so we can compare.

The blush NOID will probably stay unnamed for some time. Never mind. The only thing that I don't like about the blush NOID is that its petals get spoiled by rain. Other than that, it is beautiful. Is there any way to prevent petal disfiguration caused by rain?

I don't believe we will ever be able to identify the blush Noid. I'll add one more Noid that I have got and that I like very much. Thank you for your help

Some of my very favorite peonies are NOIDs Jasmin! I think we should continue to use this thread to post all of our prettiest NOIDs for the season! Who knows, we might figure a few of them out. Regardless we'll all enjoy the pictures.

Liz, I agree, Jasmin started a great thread. I also have some noids that need to be identified if possible.

Jasmin, as long as you are happy with it, it doesn't matter if you know it's true name. You can call it anything you want. Like George.

I never concern myself with named plants. I track the new ones I buy but usually end up losing the names. I check for very old varieties just because they are more sturdy and usually fragrant. Think of the stress of keeping up with named iris of which there are supposedly 20,000 or more. Many times one can find at least a dozen different names with almost identical colors. BTW, I like the "George" reference.
