I had a few seedlings bloom this year, not many, but thought I'd share some pics of them for you to rip. The first one I'm sharing is a cross between Gypsy Lord (Pollen parent) and Mastery (Pod Parent) It's the only one of that cross to bloom this year, there are several more that I'll have to wait to see next year. I understand about the only thing you can really tell about them the first year is the color.

What I like about it is:
Triple sockets
Bright standards
Long bloom season starting mid season.
Bright beards
good grower
The golden edge on the falls

What concerns me is:
It's not unique enough.
Could be more ruffly

What I plan for it:
I crossed it with Decadence, it has a seed pod, so it's fertile.
I'll see what it looks like next year, and see if it's a good parent.

Your comments, critiques will be useful. Thanks.

I think it's one to hang onto and see what it does in the next year or two. It would also be beneficial to compare it with the other seedlings when they bloom.
I'm in agreement with all you said.

The underside of the falls looks to be the same color of the gold rim on the falls. I like that as it means a bloom of substance. I like the clear yellow/gold of the standards and bright beard. No muddy color there.

I love the spray of yellow around the beards! And the subtle gold rim on the falls. I love this Iris Tom -- I would grow it in my garden. Smiling

The richness of the blend of color on the falls is really what caught my eye.
Triple sockets and a long bloom season are really desirable traits. Thumbs up

The color doesn't seem that different as you say. However triple sockets & the other plant attributes make it a good plant with which to work.

Tom your seedling looks good. I really like the gold band on the falls. Your cross with decadence should be interesting. I would love to see the seedlings when they bloom. May have to talk seedling trades, if that cross turnouts good! We will be waiting for the rest of this cross to bloom. You've got a good start.

One thing I would do to make reading the cross easier, put pod parent X pollen parent.

I like the brightness of the yellow standards and beard, too. So welcome in any garden. The overall form seems balanced. I don't like the ones that look top heavy. It looks like it has substance.

How is it in the heat? Does it stand up to it? Are the stalks strong?

I say 2 thumbs up from me. Thumbs up Thumbs up Lovey dubby

Thanks for the comments. I would have used Reckless Abandon Paul, but it was all finished blooming by the time I decided to use this one. I have moved some RA to an outer bed to get a later bloom season for future years. The bloom seems to last a long time before it fades, we didn't have a lot of extra hot weather, but in the 80's a few days. I will post another one later, got back home last night quite late from my 50th class reunion.

This is another seedling that opened. The Pollen parent was Glamour Pants, and the pod parent was Brazilian Art.

Pretty unremarkable in my estimation, but I'll let it bloom again next year just in case the form/ruffles improve with age.
