After moving three times this year, I lost a lot of my hoyas. Moving the last time in January really did in a lot of them. But the few who remain have been doing very well. Does anyone else here collect hoyas? I'd love to trade with someone before cold weather sets in to try to recover some of the ones I lost. Not many of my hoyas are ready for cutting right now, but my cacti and succulent collection has faired better with the moves and may have some things I could take pups from. I also have a big epi that started as a cutting I just stuck in my plumeria pot. I included a picture below of my very happy obovata....a faithful bloomer every year.

I am hopelessly hooked on Hoyas. In the last couple of years I've accumulated maybe 50 of them *Blush*
Once they all get growing I'll be willing to trade...probably next summer.

I love hoya's and they grow well for me, but I've never had one bloom. I have one growing in front of my window that is over 12 feet long, beautiful plant...just wish it would bloom.

I guess I have no idea how to grow hoyas! The one I have isn't (quite) dead (someone overwatered - and it wasn't me!) but no new foliage, no flowers, nothing. Do I need to fertilize more often? Am I using the wrong kind of fertilizer? (I'm using the same stuff as I use on my orchids)

I've found the best fertilizer to keep my hoya's happy is Superthrive. I use that every watering, according to the instructions on the bottle. I use any houseplant food at the recommended dosage, every other time I water. But before I started using Superthrive, I too would loose Hoya's every time I tried to grow them.

blueeyes, I'm in the same position as you. I lost most of my hoya this past winter from the freezing temps. I'm slowly replacing them. Maybe in the spring there will be a round robin. I'm hoping for one.

Thanks Alan! I added a half teaspoon to a half gallon of water last time I watered all my tropicals (may as well!) and honestly, everything looks a little perkier. Hurray!

Yep, I use it in all my plants too. I haven't heard any complaints yet from them Smiling

I have a Hoya lacunosa that is a reliable bloomer for me. I hang it outside in the summer in partial sun, and it just does it's thing! The flowers are small, but smell heavenly. I have it hanging up in our bedroom so that we can enjoy the scent.

I can spare two or three cuttings per person for two or three people if someone wants to trade. Let me know what you have.

Thanks!

I also love hoyas Lovey dubby I'm just starting to seriously collect them, so I only have about 20 small plants at the moment...but I can see they'll probably be the bulk of my plant collection soon. I mean, beautiful foliage, amazing flowers and amazing sent, what more can you ask of a plant??

I've tried putting my hoya's outside, they do ok, until summer. But with temps of 115-119 F, they start to get really ticked off. So have to bring them inside. One I have is so huge, I can't even take it outside anymore, It's all wrapped around t clothes line that goes from one side of my big picture window to the other, and back across the other direction again. I'll try and take a picture of it, but being by the window, it's hard to see with the bright light shining in. The best I could do is a side shot, here it is.

I can't remember the name of this one off the top of my head, but as I recall, it is suppose to have red clusters of flowers. That's another variegated hoya in that pot at the other end. It does pretty well with the superthrive too.

Please don't look at my messy office!! =)

Ok, I edited them and resized. You should be able to see them at a nicer size now. Just click on the pics above.

Wow, Alan, you sure have no need for "window treatments" in that room!

I've got 4 hoyas that seem to be doing pretty well, but like others I focus on enjoying their foliage. However, in the past year or so one of them has started blooming regularly (every month or two, and more blooms each time), and my little fishtail hoya is now budding out a couple of blooms for the second time.

I have a small H. lacunosa that's growing very slowly, but it looks pretty happy, so I'm reluctant to do anything much different with it. Superthrive can't hurt to try, though!

One thing I didn't know until Chantell told me a few years back... Hoyas will bloom repeatedly from the same little stub, so when the flower is fading, you can gently knock off the little blooms, but don't "pinch" off the cluster at its base!

LOL! There are actually some blinds on that window, and the pull down shades over that window. But they haven't been used since I bought the house. I like my office bright and cheery. I do need to move my potting bench outside the window, and wash that window really well. It would make the room even brighter, Of course to move the potting shed I have to clean everything off of it, throw some of it away, and organize the rest. It needs to happen soon, a motivational day. :)

Thanks Lee Anne & Alan! H. australis is an easy Hoya for me ... sometimes blooming twice a year. This is the most blooms it's ever had at one time and the smell is wonderful.
