While the Fall and Winter so far have given my area lower than usual temperatures in December, we also experienced lower than the usual number of freezes to date, an extraordinary amount of rain, and a plethora of much warmer than usual days. As a result, I have flowers blooming on this New Year's Day that would have normally gone dormant weeks back. You will hear no complaints from me...

Since it is likely any work on the house will be months delayed, yesterday I decided to jump out of limbo and painted most of the remaining pink space in the sunroom; then hung a poster that has been in the spare room. Looks good, don't you think? Thinking of moving the curtains, too, but want to tape some bubble wrap over the sunroom windows first. Otherwise, I will need to do what I have in years past--stuff old sheets and tablecloths in the window sills and tack sheets completely over the space (it gets COLD in there Blinking ). Also thinking of pasting flower photographs or something over the door panels. I won't be able to keep it, might as well make it more decorative until removal. Big Grin

I like the idea of starting the new year off with a new thread. Smiling You have done a nice job in that room, Debra. I'm really sorry work on your house is going to have to be delayed. I know you've really been looking forward to it.

Thank you, Linda, I think so, too.

Patti, yeah, a part of me is selfishly disappointed--that is normal and I am okay feeling it without guilt. Because the rest of me understands that local contractors will have their hands full for a bit taking care of folks in need of immediate help. Next week, should find out more information about what will happen now.

I am continually astonished--and pleased!!--at the blooms. Still have an Iris bloom stalk trying to come up, too. It is a pink one, Mary Ann. Big Grin

The color is called Pale Moss Green, and it is in eggshell finish. Never knew until I got this house how paint finish makes a difference in how the color is seen.

So, I let the peas burn... Whistling Whistling ...on the bottom, anyway. Hilarious! Enough was good on the top layer to scrape off and mix with chopped jalapeno and diced bacon to make it edible. Not a fan of them, but I would have failed in my bounden duty to uphold the "Time-Honored Southern Tradition of Eating Black-Eyed Peas on New Year's for Luck" if I hadn't made the effort. {{snicker-snortle-chort}} Rolling on the floor laughing

It might have a chance if it can open, or at least get close to opening, by about January 11. Supposed to only get at the freezing mark overnight, and daytime temperatures would be plenty warm enough until then. Fingers crossed, eh? Smiling

How cold is it forecast to get there, Debra?

It is great to see blooms in January! My yard is full of blooms. This is the longest that I've ever seen a Firespike bush bloom. I have several in my yard (the hummers and butterflies love them).

But we are FINALLY supposed to get some cooler weather. Not cold weather, but cooler weather. It is supposed to be in the low 70's and high 60's over the next 5 days before it jumps back up in 80's. I am looking forward to it. I just wished that weather had happened over my entire Winter Holiday break from work. I would have been more motivated to work out in the yard. I did do quite a bit of work outside, but not nearly what I was hoping to do because it was just too hot.

This station tends to forecast a smidgen lower than others, but the one I usually check isn't updated. For this time of year, I won't quibble with a degree or two even if it means my flowers go away. It isn't pipe-freezing cold, which I worry about, so I will take this forecast and be happy about it. Hilarious! I am already ahead having blooms this far into Winter. Smiling

Sister took me to breakfast this morning (oooh, BAYYYY-con!), then I piddled around outside for awhile. Assessing how much weedy grass is left to pull, what Iris can be dug up and rehomed (because I HAVE to make room for incoming), what I need to do to clear saplings and vines from the back corner by the garage, and whether or not I really need all the crap piled on the worktable under the carport. You know, stuff like swizzle sticks. "Hey, plant stakes." And paint stirrers. "Hey..." Well, I don't know what I was thinking on those, but you get the idea. Tomorrow's project might just be ruthlessly clearing it off.
