The gailladria's I planted last year are not showing a bit of growth this year I will give them another couple of weeks but it does not look promising.

Betty, I think they are only good to zone 5. Bluestone Perennials is having a 50% off sale and you can get them for $5.47 each. At that price you may be able to get several and enjoy them for the summer. Big Grin Thumbs up

I know that Susan as I got their email on the 50% off sale, but I only plant things that are hardy here and the ones I planted last year were suppose to be hardy here. I like perennials that are super hardy and come back easily. I really do have plenty of plants that do well here but once in awhile I get the hankering to try something different.

I know what you mean, I do the same thing. I have noticed that some companies exaggerate the zones. It if funny because I read some reviews and they did not come back for people in zone 8 either and they did not come back for me.

Betty: I'd wait awhile longer before giving up on them. Mine just started showing leaves and I'm in a zone 6. I thought I lost mine too but noticed yesterday they are coming back. Seems like when we warmed up, they appeared.

Julia I will give them plenty of time after all this is the north and you can be surprised by a plant putting in a late appearance, so I am hoping that happens.

Betty, have you tried growing them from seed? In my Utah flower beds, they reseeded so bad that it was almost not worth growing them. Not sure what will happen here in Idaho, but I hope it's not as bad. I only brought a couple of them with me, just in case I get overwhelmed with them!

Mine also reseed very well but they are easy to pull. I just saw that my Arizona Red did come back!

Like most of you, I do good to get them to last 2 years in my garden. I think the longest lasting for me are the Tokajer. Mine are on year 3 and looking good. They do come true from seed and are a nice mellow orange. I loved the yellow ball ones I grew a couple years ago, but they did not reseed. I think my other one now is a reseeded Arizonia, which looks like the normal orange'yellow. I will be glad to save some Tokajer seeds this fall if anyone wants some. They were taken out of occupied Germany.

I've got blooms from my burgundy gaillardia! Finally, they are blooming after sowing them from seeds over a year ago. Hurray! Hurray!
I had some gaillardia growing a few years back and they last through our winters and self-sowed too. They looked like Tokejer and then some looked like fanfare. I'll have to find my pics.

Hurray! Arlene!

I had several burgundy in my yard that were there for 8 years and were taking over the flower bed, so I gave them to a friend. I couldn't keep up with pulling the seedlings, and I had become tired of them anyway. Some years, they got a slow start, but once they started growing, they grew like crazy!
