I think your Jacob's Robe must be Joseph's Coat, which is more likely to display those vibrant colors. The colors of Jacob's Robe are closer to pastel shades. Besides, Jacob's Robe wasn't introduced into commerce until 2008. No way it could have been a body bag rose in 2009.

PPal - I've had this plant since '09 and the tallest it's ever gotten was about 18", so I doubt he's gonna climb. Even my Melodie Parfumee is taller (over 5' tall right now), not to mention Picante (over 5' as well).

This mornin's blooms, taken w/my phone Big Grin

Voluptuous!

Darn, I was going to ask if your yellow/red/Josephs' Coat could be Redgold, but you'd already know that since you already have Redgold.

Those cheap roses in a bag are notorious for being mislabeled. I have some that were waaayyyyyy wrong.

Heh, my spouse calls them "dead sticks in a bag" because they are often stacked up and left in the sun where they fry and die.

Well, with the intense heat we've been having as of late, most of my roses look like crapzilla. But I tried to get some pix this morning. I couldn't find my camera, so I ended up using my phone. Grumbling Grumbling Took *some* decent pix...

This is in the early morning sunlight.. sun was just peeking over the neighbor's fence in some of these pics. I could use that as an excuse as to why the pix look like crap, but to be honest, it's user error. Big Grin Green Grin! Big Grin

Nice photos despite the weather.

I know what you mean about the weather. Just as my HTs and minis were peaking, we had a day with temperatures in the 90's and WIND, which fried all the petals.

That unknown rose does look like an English roses, but I don't know which one. I have quite a few that look pretty similar to that one.

Tabby & Mike - I haven't the foggiest idea on English roses as I don't buy them! And I wouldn't have bought an apricot rose.. don't really care for the color. But it 1) survived 2 winters and 2) blooms nicely, so I will just have to guess. Maybe I can make up a name?

EDIT: Port Sunlight. I remember the name. I bought it basically sight-unseen as it had a tag on it, but my phone was dead & it didn't have any buds on it.

Forgot to post pictures of my pond area. This is the main area where my "blue" roses are (although I do have them all over the place, but only blue roses go in here)

This has 1) Sterling Silver 2) Singin' the Blues 3) Natasha Monet 4) Barbra Streisand 5) Blue Girl 6) Singin' the Blues 7) Sterling Silver 8) English Perfume 9) Florence Delattre

Thumb of 2012-06-14/Skiekitty/8980c4

More blue roses here in the Pond area from bottom to top is Sterling Silver, Singin' the Blues, Royal Amethyst, & Angel Face (I think, need to double check)
Thumb of 2012-06-14/Skiekitty/1ff52a

And this is with the sunlight pouring in. The big whitish ones to the left are Stainless Steels. Rose on the bottom to the right of the Stainless Steels is either Tardi Gris or Poseidon.. can't remember who's where (they're next to each other).

I love that last photo!

My guess is that it is the dryness that is harming your roses. We have heat like yours and more and the roses don't care - however we almost never have less than 50% humidity - even in last year's drought. In any event your garden is looking great in my opinion!

PPal - it's not the heat or the dry (they get watered every 3 days). It's the UV from the altitude. That's what kills them here. That and the insistent winds.

I didn't mean that they were thirsty, I meant that your thin, dry air sucks the life out of them - or almost. However, I still think yours look really good this year. Our soggy sauna fosters fungus so they are leafless often enough, but surprisingly they survive and bloom anyway.

PPal - LOL!! Yea, our desiccating air here saps the moisture out of everything: plants, ground, skin, etc. Sometimes after a long day in the garden my hands literally ache. Not from digging/pulling weeds/etc, but because the skin is just SOOO dry. Lots & lots of cocoa butter. Wish there was some way I could help my roses, but not really. I get really worried when the edges of the leaves start to curl & blacken.. haven't had that yet, but it's not even summer yet (not officially.. not for another week).

I complain about our hot dry winds, but yesterday we had hot humid winds and BOY! I'll take the hot and dry any day! Sure enough, that humidity foretold a big storm so I got the rain I needed last night. Today I'll need to spray for blackspot. Doesn't take long for it to crop up on my few HT's once we have a rainy night.
Toni, it sounds yucky, but I put lotion on my hands before putting on my gloves and it really helps. Kinda steams the lotion into my skin. I've learned that dry air at lower elevations (we're at 1300') makes breathing easier for me. i can't breathe at all in humidity of 80% and more, need an inhaler. It was 56% here yesterday and I was feeling it. Crazy that just a little bit has a big effect.

Cindi - by this time, you guys should be having that wild storm we had last night around 330am. Lightning was like a strobe light.. kept me up for about 1/2 hour. It was crazy!! And humidity sucks. I remember the sticky "Triple H" days from NY (Hot, Hazy, & Humid) where you'd swear it was raining UP. The hazy would be so thick you'd think it's fog, but it would be about 95deg w/100% humidity! YUCK! You'd wake up sticky, get dressed sticky, be sticky all day, take a shower, your towel was already wet.. BLEH.

This Sunday I'm gonna be doing deadheading. My yard needs it desperately. snip snip snip!

Today has been beautiful! I'm going to make a note for the history books. The air is CALM. We have no WIND today! It feels so strange. Everything is just holding still. Guess I should be out taking pictures and maybe they wouldn't be blurry for once!
Really should be spraying and deadheading myself. we'll have lots of family in town for a nephew's wedding on July 14, and I think if I deadhead now, most of the roses would be fully in bloom then. In fall it takes 6 weeks, but in summer it's more like 3-4, because most of mine are shrubs, floribundas and Austins.
I also remember miserable summers spent in NYC, in Howard Beach. Hot stinky stagnant air. yuck. I am going to stop complaining about our dry air. Remind me next time I start to whine.
Now...heading back outside where I don't have to water! The rain gauge said 4" this morning but I think 2.5 of that was left over from the last storm. I couldn't have slept through that much rain.
