Greg did you see the woman with the semp crown hat. I do not plan to wear my semps. But if we keep spending money on plants we may have to wear them. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing I have brought more plants since Jan than cloths.

Wonder if a Semp bikini would work for my vacation this year.

I have been to half a dozen places today looking for another semp planter.
Wanted a glazed low round or oblong one without breaking the bank Hilarious!

I have not found it. I need to transplant as some of the ones I put all together are getting crowded.

Thumb of 2013-06-23/CDsSister/db7a00

Also need to repot the blue faux hyper tufa, They don't seem to be doing very well in that one.

Thumb of 2013-06-23/CDsSister/3ca053

Sorry it is blurry but I think you can see some are DEAD Blinking Others are struggling Confused

I wonder if it could be the kind of paint I used?

When I am looking for a odd planter I think out of the box and hit Goodwill. Hilarious! There are a lot of dishes that can be used.

Maybe I will try them next. I just did not want to drill if I could find one with a hole already in it. Hilarious!

I have a couple of things which could work. One is a large basket, another is an African bread basket, a gift from a friend.

My concern is that they will not winter very well. Shrug!

Marilyn your first pot looks fine...it doesn't look crowded at all, just growing in! Unless you want to keep the different cultivars separate, then that means planting unsimilar ones near each other. It is a beautiful pot and plants! Thumbs up Thumbs up I tip my hat to you.

Rolling on the floor laughing They'll make babies! I should post an update of my mini green wall - they are making babies even though they're crowded in - they have to go up! (I planted it fully thinking if they're that close in they won't offset, wrong! Hilarious! )
Enjoy Marilyn! Hurray!

Marilyn, your first pot in the top photo looks fine. You just have too many rocks. Remember, it's the live stuff that's more important. Whistling
Can't really see all in the 2nd pic but it's a good question to ask and check on regarding the safety of the paint.
Only drawback with baskets is that unless you line with plastic (but then drainage is impeded), it will be leaky and the basket will rot overtime. And if it is one of those one-of-a-kind, can't-find-it-anywhere work of art basket, you may not want to use that?

Thanks Bev, I thought the rocks would help them feel crowded and hopefully put out some chicks. ... Hehe and now I am worried about that very thing.

I will take some out and see how they do.

Thanks for the advice too on the baskets, You are right they would rot and except for the African one, are of no great value.
I may at least try it for an interim solution.

Marilyn I do know people who plant in baskets and let it go for a couple years and just replant as needed!! I have been using metal baskets when I can find them! Thumbs up

I saw a basket at the grocery store today with 3 Semps and a houseplant and they wanted 40.00 for the basket.

It was in a plastic basket that looked like a real basket. It was made out of that plastic wicker look patio furniture.

Bev those photos were not a repeat for me. I love all of them. You have such a knack for arranging.

Marilyn I agree with the rest here, that first photo looks great, just to many big rocks. And each variety looks very different from all the rest. That bowl will be beautiful once it fills in with semps. Let them fill their little home to the rim. Hurray!
With the second photo, have you stuck your finger way down into the soil to see how wet/dry it is? With the photo so fuzzy it's hard to tell what is going on. Are all the plants struggling? And how long have they been in the container?

I find the metal baskets all the time at Goodwill. Hurray!
You need to make the trip Marilyn, and remember, think outside the box.

And offer to pay your neighbor to drill them. It doesn't take any time at all to drill them. Or look for ones that don't need drilling, like the metal basket. Hurray!
