I don't know if some including myself use it as a perennial but I keep this in a pot with a Siam Ruby banana tree and it climbs the stem and blooms every year

how do you over winterized them? I brought two plants this year, I really loved them, but can't find any info for winterized. I 'm in zone 6b, please help me!!!!!!

I grow all my tropicals in pots so I just bring all my pots in and put them in the back of the laundry room. That rooms temp stays at 60-70 degrees. I only throw a trickle of water on all my tropical pots about once a month, sometime I have only poured about a glass of water on each pot twice during the winter Dec-March. About April I see everyone waking up when I see leaves I give them about 2 glasses of water in April. Put everything outside in May after Mother's day. Cool temps of 40 degrees do not bother them. As long as the temps do not go below freezing in the Spring they are fine.

I put pots in the basement without water, repot them come spring.

I have to replace mine this Spring, I probably will try to save the roots this fall. Still learning to winterized this plant, I plant it in a large pot so can move it in door, thank you for sharing your experience with me!!!

I saw them at Lowes or HD last week. I do not remember which one so if you want you can check them both. I think they were 6.98 for two

@Cinta there you go again. Just so happens I'm going to HD tomorrow. Wasn't much of anything plant wise when I visited a week ago.

They had them with the summer bulbs, there was the usual Elephant Ear, Caladiums, and Lilies.

Must be Lowes because I've already fondled touched and caressed the boxed bulbs at HD. Oops did I say that out loud?

Yes, you did and you're not the only one doing that kind of thing. And yes it's Lowes that has the gloriosa bulbs. But from what I remember, there is only one rhizome in the pack for $4.98 or $5.98 in this area. I'll be in Columbia tomorrow checking out both stores before I head home to get some gardening done. I didn't do anything today, except water some houseplants as I was away most of the day.

Sigh. Well there were more bulbs and such out in the boxes at HD. Against my better judgement I bought my first freesias AND @Cinta my first peony. Sarah Bernhardt. I was feverishly trying to remember if that was one of the zone 8 peonies, but then I decided I didn't care it was pretty and pink and fragrant and it had sprouts and and... this really is how addiction starts isn't it @Cinta? Huh huh?
I'm going to plug this puppy in the hole that I have in my fragrant shrubs. Gardenias, tea olives, and banana shrub.

I have to tell myself sometime that I am going to buy myself out of a home and end up sleeping in a dog house drinking rain water. It is addicting. I use to have space stop me now that I have all these acres of land there is nothing to stop me.

I am pretty sure peony. Sarah Bernhardt is hardy to your zone. It is a historic peony. If you see a house that has fallen down years ago and see a peony growing and flowering it is a pretty sure bet it is Sarah.

with Cinta. I thought that I had one, but maybe I don't. I had a beautiful double that was darker than SB at one time. I think someone dug it up and stole it. It just vanished one late winter/early spring after I cleared the area of debris and added some fertilizer. They left a tiny piece of root, which I should have potted up to keep an eye one it, but I was so ticked off at the time.

Kabby, remember to plant the root very shallowly. We don't get very cold and they need to be exposed to the cold air/ground temps, in order to bloom. That's why I clear away all mulch, leaves, etc., when I see evidence of growth. I have one Festiva Maxima that get's very tall. It's not very full like the double pink that I used to have. But the blooms are awesome. I need to find a picture. In fact, I need to take and post more photos. I love looking at everyone else's. Watch out Cinta, there are all kinds of enablers on this forum. You'll want to try growing this, and then that, and then something else. It's never ending.

Oh Cinta you made me literally laugh out loud. Rain water! I burned myself out by trying to fill in my half acre. By the time I finished weeding it was time to start over again. Getting orders in, trading, sending plants out. I couldn't enjoy it. It's too easy for me to be sucked back into that so I'm taking it easy and having fun with it this time around.
@Deebie if the soil is sandy should I plant a little deeper? Thanks for the tip. That ticks me off that someone would steal your shrub. What the heck!

Kabby I am a tight gardener. I use a lot of ground cover plants. If there is a plant there is no room for weeds to grow. No weeds are growing in here.

Hostas, carpet rose bush, coral bells, and geranium. It is an answer to your question about hiding bulb leaves ....this is an example Asiatic lily leaves are hidden after the flowers are gone.
