I have been reading about this beautiful shrub/tree and find it very interesting. I live in Iceland and we have been trying to grow a lot of trees, some of which are said to be impossible to grow here. I think this small tree would have a good chance here, I read a post on DG from someone in zone 4a who is growing it with a good results.

I would be very grateful if you could direct me to someone who would be wiling to sell me a few seeds.

Thanks all the same Allison. I have tried to google but I only find plants, and I can not import plants, only seeds, so if anybody knows where seeds of Heptacodium miconiodes, ( Seven sons flower or Fall Lilac) to be found please let me know. Angel

Hi, Magga:

You might want to check with Jonna Sudenius in Belgium. She's been a very reliable seed source for several years on other websites.

Here is a link to her website:
http://www.seedsite.eu/

Even if she is unable to help you personally, she might know of some other sources. I've found Jonna to be very knowledgable, and have both traded and purchased from her with great success.

Let us know how your search turns out, Magga.

I love learning about the things that others grow outside of our climate. Jonna has a similar climate to ours, yet her garden is quite different than mine.

What is your growing zone in iceland? (I'm fascinated by this--would love to hear what types of things do well in your garden). What is your climate like? We were in a serious drought this year--many of our areas were unable to water anything so it was a challenge even for the hardiest of plants.

What types of things do you grow from seed? I grow a lot of herbs, veggies, and annual flowers from seed.

I don't know anything about the tree, either. But I agree, Jonna is a great source of knowledge.

I am selling the seeds on E-bay. I live in Los Angeles. In my home country South Korea the plant has been adapted well to the soil and weather there. The climate in Seoul, capital city, is almost same as New York. USDA zone 5. Seedling and soft-cutting has been processed recently there. I doubt if seedling is so successful yet, but it's worthy tring to complete the method.

The plant explorers' site had seeds for heptacodium miconoides in September.
I am kicking myself for not ordering them when I saw them.
I am looking for seeds too. I prefer seeds to plants.

I found someone who sells 10 seeds for about $ 5.00, but he ships only to the EU. Magga, I'm going to order them also for you, because I owe you.
If someone else wants a packet, please let me know very soon, because I want to order fast, before they are out of stock.
Shipping from here to outside the EU is $ 2.00, so a packet of 10 seeds will cost you $ 7.00 including shipping

Thank you dear Jonna, I´m just crazy about the heptacodium miconoides seeds. I got a few seeds from The plant explorers' Twining Vine Garden late last winter. I at last got 2 seeds germinating now just before Christmas, and that was it. I have little hope that they will live, but who knows? Whistling

And how did you germinate them?
I just received some seeds from Twining Gardens.
Warm? then chill if no germination?

Yes Carol, I actually received the Heptacodium seeds at the end of January last l year. They were packed in a small amount of moist vermiculate. I put them in a larger bag with some more moist seed compost. I had them in and out of the fridge every 3 - 4 months. Then 3 seeds germinated in the fridge in November and December and I planted these small plants in a pot and distributed the rest from the bag on top of the pot with the small plants. I kept the pot in a half open plastic bag. 2 of the plants died so I thought: That is it Sad In the middle of January at least 10 more seeds germinated in the pot on the windowsill. They are still very small and I just hope that they will survive the winter. Green Grin! nodding

Now, I know to keep the pot for awhile.
We shall see how these turn out.
