I believe it was 24 F when we got up this morning. Despite trying to cover what I could I had lots of frost damage. The wind blew open the frost blanket on my about to bloom Brugmansia and it is all wilted now. The Canna all turned brown and a huge half barrel of Lady in Red Salvia are all black this morning. The Coleus that were left have checked out as well. The Cape Honeysuckle bushes were fried in parts. Crying

Any one else having a lot of damage ? Confused At least the pipes made it thru ok but they are calling for 19 F in Tucson tonight. Sad

Linda, I am so sorry your plants got frozen. Crying Have you tried using cloths pins/pegs to keep the frost blankets from blowing off your plants? Shrug!

I think you need several, or tie string around the entire plant if it isn't too big.

Maybe....when the wind blows too hard it pulls the frost cloth apart and springs things. Sad I have just decided to give up gardening. Whistling Rolling on the floor laughing

Ouch on all you lost Linda!!

I don't garden these days since I live in an apartment but I brought in all of my pots for the several freeze days we had. As I walked around the complex yesterday I noticed a lot of damaged plants though. They did not cover a single thing. Thumbs down

I don't know Becky. When it gets down to 17 F I am thinking covers probably are not going to save stuff. Sad

A friend and I discussed that at church the other night. Decided we would probably catch our covers on fire if we used both . Hilarious!

I think I might have lost my Aloe dorothea - dang it, it's the one I've been wanting for *years*. Luckily, they seem to be a lot more available these days.

Other than that, most of my under-the-southern porch stuff seems to have done fine. My snap dragons didn't blink. My sages got purple on their leaves, but that's about it, and the stock and ornamental cabbage and kale are thriving. For a little while at least, lol!

Same thing at my mother's house. Everything sheltered on the east side, between her porch and the staircase was largely sheltered from the wind, which kept things warmer, I suspect. Everything to the south and west, though got frosted a few weekends a go when we had a cold snap after a very warm few days here in Lehi.

Yep, due to a cold snap, I have frost damage in Santa Fe to newly planted vegetable garden; 4 (2 1/2 feet high with tomatoes!) of 7 tomatoes and 1 (also 18 inches high with itty-bitty peppers!) of 3 bell peppers. I cut the plants back, all of the wilted/frozen parts, close to the grown level, and one tomato and one pepper seem to be adding new leaves! YAY. Roses had a few tips burned but are doing well; strawberries too. I had covered them too, to no avail.Newly planted perennials (covered) are blooming away! Whew!!
