So sorry I forgot to start a new chat for 2013.
Can't wait to see what new sedum and photos all of you will come up with in this new year.

I have a new sedum plant that will be here soon, hopefully today or tomorrow. As soon as it get here I will take photos for you.
Meanwhile here is a photo of Sedum 'Bon Bon' peaking through the soil. I love these dormant types, always so exciting when they start breaking dormancy.

It's icy here today and I haven't been able to get out much to photograph mine breaking dormancy but I'm excited to see them all. Hurray!
I garden for the pollinators.

This Sedum makinoi Ogon is wintering over very well, even when it got down close to 20 deg. These were all naturally seeded from a plant that was in my "ducky" planter. They simply appeared where there were none before. I'm surprised the large patch has done so well because it is right next to a clump of Japanese iris that I water alot in the summer.

I had 3 pots of Ogon that didn't make it out of their pots but I took care of them the best I could and they are all dead. So it would seem that the best place for Ogon is planted in the garden.

I agree with you Connie about planting them in the ground. And they do like more moisture than some of the other sedum, and possible a little filtered shade the hottest part of the day?
Your photos are great, showing some healthy colonies of Ogon.

I have failed with Ogon every time I've tried it. I think I will try planting some on the north side of my house, see if it likes it there.
I have had good luck with S. makinoi Limelight, seems to be much tougher than Ogon.

Mine are planted where they get late afternoon shade, after 3:00 pm. So they get sun a good part of the day. This has to be my favorite sedum. It just looks so great with darker colored succulents. Must use some on my table garden Green Grin! .

I was trying to grow it in full sun. *Blush*
Silly me.

That would really be stunning in the table garden. It would make everything stand out.

I just got 3 new sedum in the mail today. I am looking forward to seeing how they do here.

I just went out with a flashlight to check on my makinoi Limelight and wondered why I couldn't find it Confused . I was thinking this must be another dead one in a pot but finally figured I was thinking of that reflexum Lemon something I got at Rickreal. It is still there in the pot, a bit ragged! Perhaps another good one to stick on the table. Need to do a Dancing Oaks visit this spring...

Hi Greg.
Connie has such wonderful plants and she is a lot of fun to go to plant sales with.

Connie I haven't been to Dancing Oaks for several years. Things just kept getting in the way. I signed up to go to the Insights Into Gardening on Feb 9th in Corvallis. Really looking forward to it. Are you going?

There will be some great vendors there, and interesting classes.

Lynn, I haven't been to Dancing Oaks in a couple of years either. Meant to do it last year but didn't make it. They do have some unusual plants as well as a beautiful setting.

When I was pres. of the garden club here I would get an annual notice of Insights in the mail that I would pass on to the members. Haven't attended it though. If I remember right they run some classes simultaneously so you can't attend all of them, just a couple maybe.

OK I went and looked... The one about managing vertebrate pests really sounds good but I don't see "neighbor in rental next door who refuses to mow" listed. I don't have any of the other pests.

Rolling on the floor laughing How about neighbor who doesn't realize that the building's "secret garden" isn't a dog run! Meanwhile I've stepped in dog doo twice! grrr. I hope its all taken care of though, because I decided to go to the root of the trouble, and last time I saw the dog (with his owner, in the garden) I yelled and made such a racket that the poor beast freaked out! (I know this is mean, but I wanted the dog to really NOT want to come into the garden!) We'll see if it works! Rolling on the floor laughing Connie I suppose yelling really loudly won't help! No, it won't help. He is only home on weekends. My guess is he will move out sometime in the next few months (I hope) because he got a job in the Portland area and is up there during the week. He's a nice guy other than this. Did I mention the huge blackberry growing up over the roof in the backyard? Or the 4 foot weeds that grow through the cracks in the driveway? And guess where all the weed seeds go? Yeah, right!!!

I hope your problem is solved too. I get neighborhood cats over pooping right on the lawn. They don't even know they are cats. They think they are dogs!

Well I think this thread is degenerating into the abyss. Isn't it supposed to be about sedums? Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing nodding

Rolling on the floor laughing seriously Connie you just cracked me up! But since we're here, one more, last year twice I found what I took to be human poop, but when I told my sister she said "are you sure its not racoon, they have large poops?" In my head I'm like "no this isn't racoons...about a week later I was coming home late one evening and I see 2 racoons leaving my yard and crossing the street - I live only 10 blocks from downtown Seattle so this did surprise me a bit, but I was very glad that it wasn't people poop! Rolling on the floor laughing OKAY I'm done now! Back to sedum...here are my several sedums waiting patiently since last Oct to be planted, I'm waiting for the right location/season/mood/motivation Rolling on the floor laughing Thumb of 2013-01-26/gg5/1f3b3c

Raccoons and possums live a lazy urban life nowadays. We had a mama and her three babies come visit and when I spooked them (they are nocturnal) the babes headed up my pine tree just a few feet from where I was standing. Momma stayed just on the other side of the cyclone fence giving me that look that said I better get back in the house or else. They do poop all over the lawn and the possums seem to keep it along the foundation of the house. It is all rather stinky in the summer. The raccoons are attracted to my goldfish pond. I used to have koi but they were so friendly they would come to edge regardless of what they saw at the edge. So I don't have koi any more, just goldfish. They are smarter, I think. Whistling

Looks like you have a good supply of sedums to work with Green Grin! .

Hurray! Good morning all.

Connie your sense of humor is wonderful. To bad they won't be addressing that garden pest in session 2.
I signed up for 2, 5 & 9.
Can't wait to see what the vendors will have for sale.

Yuck on the raccoon poop. We have them almost every night in our yard, but I've never found their poop. Are they still pooping in your garden Greg?

I had to go talk to two of my neighbors about their dogs coming over and pooping on our front lawn, the big Husky dog actually hit our chain link gate so hard, he sprung it open, went in and pooped in the back yard. Woke me up out of a sound sleep in the middle of the night.
They no longer come over. I love dogs, but we have a leash law here, which means they aren't suppose to be running the neighborhood.

I found this fasciated S. 'Silver Stone' when I was cleaning up one of the raised beds last summer. I potted up the part that was faciated. It looked like it had died, but I didn't want to give up on it. Low and behold here it is last week. I am so happy. I see that it has a few normal pieces of new growth, I will clip those back to the body of the plant so they don't take over. Hurray!

How pretty is that! I like it! Lynn, haven't seen racoons recently! or signs luckily! Hilarious! Koi are very friendly - its lovely, but dangerous! I had some in an indoor tank, and when they got too big I'd take them to a neighborhood pond...until I realized that there was a heron who'd hang out and wait for the silly guys, who weren't used to the big bad outdoors, they thought any shadows on the water meant food! (I think they think everything means food!) Big Grin

A few years back I went on a garden tour here in town and there was one where the owners made most of their backyard into a fish pond. They stretched netting all across their backyard from fence to fence to keep the blue herons out. Those guys will come right into the middle of town if they deem it worthwhile. Anyway it seemed to be working for them!

I've seen that at the Japanese garden here, but at this park it was a smaller pond that was more meant for goldfish, but I figured why not give it a try with a couple of Koi, the Herons were there within a day! They are beautiful and regal! So are Koi though in a different type of way! Hurray!

My aunt has to put netting over her pond because of heron.

Here are photo of two of my new sedum that arrived this week. One is just coming out of dormancy and the other is recovering from the move (but is very healthy). I am looking forward to seeing both of these this spring and summer.

Any one know of a good source for specie type sedum seeds?
